I am going to the Shuttle Launch Tommorow night and am very inexperienced with shooting at night with low lighting and I wanted to see if anyone had any suggestions on settings that would produce the best shots. I will be using a XSi with either an EFS 18-35mm or EF 75-300mm lenses, you are apx 4 miles away so the EF 75-300mm will most likely be used the most. Any Suggestions???

Wow, I didn't even know there was going to be another launch this year. I have been watching the info on the Hubble missions getting delayed so maybe that is what I thought to expect no more this year.
I hope someone lets you know what equipment to use so we can see some pics!

I'm going as well. I was going to make a thread for it too!
Anyways, I'll be using my 70-300 for the launch as well. Put it this way, the Shuttle is BRIGHT. It'll almost be like shooting right at the Sun. You will be fine to shoot it with normal settings. Correct me if I'm wrong, anybody, as I have not shot the shuttle at night, this is just my best guess.
I'm gonna wing it and adjust on the fly if I need to...

Because you have a descriptive title, you can look at the "Similar Threads" links at the bottom-left of this page!
Each link you visit should provide more links at the bottom.

You be appx. 6 miles away and can find the info you need in some of my previous posts. Good luck.

I know a guy who works at NASA and photographs every single launch and landing. Tough, he shoots with a 600mm f/4L + 2x extender... so I guess that 300mm will be a little bit short :(
Here you have two examples:

Those were f/8, 1/640s at ISO 250 and 4 miles away (1200mm).
Same lens + extender for these...
