On my 20 D I noticed the setting large fine jpg & small jpg. Why would I use this setting? Do many of you folks use it? DOes it use up alot of room on the mem card?? Thanks!!

No I don't usually shoot RAW. I'd blow thru too many mem cards. I usually shoot large fine which has been working fine. I haven't gotten any negetive feedback from any of my clients...

That is how you change the size and quality of you JPEG's. I believe all digital cameras have these settings. I personally shoot RAW+L Fine

There is no setting with "Large Fine & small jpg". The only settings with "&" are for RAW. The other choices - from which you can choose only one - are Large, Medium and Small resolution ... and three levels of compression (Fine ... something, and something ... I only use Fine so I don't remember the others).
Ignoring RAW for the moment, the only reason to use anything other than Large/Fine is to save space on your CF card. With memory being so cheap ... much better to purchase more and use only Large/Fine ... or RAW.

Yes, Bob, most of the time ... although it was a relatively recent conversion. I previously used, and still occasionally use (family snapshot type situations) Large/Fine jpegs.

Bob:
Does shooting RAW really make that much of a difference? Without a long drawn out explination, what is the benefit of shooting RAW vs Large fine when most of the images are being used in printed lituature going probably no more than 11x17 or so? The files size I believe is about 18mb. I have gotten some good results enlargeing them up to 16x20- 20x24. Thanks!

If you feel you are getting good enough results with print sizes like that, then there isn't much point of a further explanation.

Chase, there are two significant advantages of shooting in RAW mode. First, you can change things in the photo like the color balance. Second, editing a JPG file causes further degradation in the image each time you save it. Convert a RAW to a TIFF or something like that and you can edit all week long and not degrade the image each time you save it.

Convert a JPEG to a TIFF and the same applies.
