View Full Version : 16-35L issues....

I bought the lens new in December. I have sent it to CPS twice since then for what I feel is a flaw in the focus at 16mm with my 10D.
I plan to shoot with it again today to see if things are any better.
Anyone else had any problems with this set up?

I have yet to have any issues with any of the lenses I have. What is it you are seeing in your photos that you think is a flaw? Examples would be prudent.

Yeah, a little more information would be useful. You may be expecting too much, or doing something wrong, or like you said, you've got a bad lens. Any which way, details will help us help you.

10D was my Primary camera until November and I never had a problem with my 16-35L lens with it.
More information might be helpful though.
Just my experience,

I used the lens on the 10D for several months before I sold the camera (and kept the lens). In short, it's a great lens and I had no problems with it.

10D was my primary body until last May and it was as good on that as it has been on my 1D MK II. Never any problems. Would like to see an example.

Wow! So many positive waves! It must be me!
I have never had concerns with any of my L lenses until I go this one. I have 28-70L and 70-200L, this one was going to complete my setup.
I have had a soft focus problem on all my shots at 16mm. I got concerned after I saw one after another, I do take bad pictures but not that many. When I get out to around 24mm they seem to be fine on out to 35mm.
I sent it to Canon and got it back and tried it again, still I was not getting the $1500 sharp photos I expected. So I sent the body and lens to Canon, I just got them both back last Friday and shot with it today, I will check out photos tonight.
I shot a train car today, all angles, all settings (no it was not moving) in Sun light and in shade, RAW and large JPEG. I hope the little red train car jumps off the screen tonight and I can rest easy.
Thanks

The shots of the train car look good. I will hold on to it until after my first AirShow on the 10th. That will be the first real test after the repairs.
I shot some photos last night of my Radio Controled Spitifre on the bench and they were not "tack sharp". I am still not 100% sold on it, again, the test will come next week.
Thanks for all the input. I will try to reduce a few photos tonight if I have time and post.

It wouldn't be the first time that Canon sent something back not fixed. I had to send my 400 f/5.6 back twice. I callled them after the first time and they sent a Fed Ex label for it. Now it's fine.
Good Luck,
Scott
