If I read the rules for the POTN book correctly, I can not submit my photographs taken of ALMS cars at an ALMS event, correct? I'd assume that ALMS restricts usage of photographs of their series and chances are slim to none that I could get permission.

Or does anybody know otherwise?

Aaron

d. If you have a photograph taken at an event (concert, auto race, etc.) that allows photography only for personal use, or otherwise prohibits photo publication, then you can not submit an image from that event. You may submit an image if you believe it is not in conflict with the track/event operator or sanctioning body. However, be sure you are prepared to prove you have permission by way of written authorization or by providing your credential status upon request of the Book Committee.

Probably best to err on the side of caution but (IMO) you could make the case that the POTN Book Project is:
- Not For Profit
- Not Commercial
- Fine Art

If you don't know for sure and can only assume what the ALMS rights agreement says, then I'd probably not submit them...

If you have written permission from ALMS then you robably could submit the picture. Regardless of whether the POTN book is not profit, non commercial or fine art then I still believe that ALMS would not be happy if you submitted and had pictures published. They, like many other bodies, are very, very particular about where images of their series appear.

Simon.

Well, I guess it doesn't hurt to at least write them an email asking. Thanks guys!

You could make a case for educational use, too. Maybe not a strong one, though. ;)

I'm sure the Lawyers for whoever holds the ALMS image rights could make a stronger case against..
