Hi, Just some advice please.
I have a sky filter on my lens for protection against damage, during the day I have used other filters ND etc and was wondering do they have any use at night & if yes what and what type?.
Thanks.

Yes, they're very good at producing flare from any bright lights in your shot. Of course, most people don't want this to happen so they remove the filter.

Other people realise that exactly the same thing happens in daylight, but is not normally so obvious. So they remove the filter for daylight shots as well.

sky filter on my lens for protection Take it off when you don't really need it & use just the hood for protection, & you'll get less lens flare when there are bright lights in/near the image. I have used other filters There are tons of them out there. Some make stars: The official Dream Cruise - Saturday (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=554646)
Aluminum window screen would do about the same thing. Run some tests with the screen right on the lens & farther away on the hood. See what you like.

I don't expect that I'd use a ND at night, but I might just before:

I sometimes use a Graduated ND filter for nighttime cityscapes... darkening the upper sky will give the city a "glow effect".
