I bought a D60 a few weeks ago and began having huge difficulties when it was attached to my strobes--refusing to shoot, then wouldn't turn back on, then wouldn't turn off! I called Canon and they said to check the trigger voltage on my strobes--the camera can't handle anything over 6 volts! This problem is intermittent--random--unpredictable. Taking out all the batteries and letting it "reset" would get me a few more shots before it started happening again.

I checked the trigger voltage on my strobe sync cord--9 volts. Then my Vivitar 285 flash--10 volts. Is anything other than Canon stuff below 6? Does anyone else have problems with sync to studio flash? I still wonder if the camera is just faulty. I don't know if I believe that anything at that low voltage would cause all these problems. Most cameras can take much more voltage. Some flash units put out over 200 volts!

Good information regarding trigger voltage and new digital cameras (a bit outdated, but still very informative):

I actually sent my Novatron V600 back to the factory for a 6 volt modification. Just to be on the safe side!

According to local dealer the Elinchrom Master Studio Set 500 C (which I use) has 6V trigger voltage.
Have had no problems with it so far.

Checked the voltage my self. It is 6volts, no more no less.
The exact type of Elinchrom I use is "Style 600".

This was my reply from elinca on 500's
Hello David,
The EL 250 / 500 have 12V trigger voltage. The Prolinca flash trigger has approx. 6.8V triger voltage.

Best wishes
Thomas

Forgot to put, you could fry your circuits above 6V.

Measuring the voltage is a simple task. Just measure the voltage with a multimeter from the sync terminal of the flash.
The manual of my Style 600 says 12volts but the actual voltage is 6volts when measured from the sync terminal.
All three flashes gave the same result.
