I found this wireless shutter (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280279914046&ih=018&category=64345&_trksid=p3984.m107&_trkparms=algo%3DMERI%26its%3DK%252BI%26itu%3DUCI% 252BUA%26otn%3D24%26ps%3D18&BackToListReferer=http%3A%2F%2Fmy.ebay.com%2Fws%2F eBayISAPI.dll%3FMyEbayBeta)on Ebay for $16.99 plus $10 shipping.
Anybody ever used one of these and are they any good?
All the sellers are from Hong Kong, China, and other 3rd world countries so I am really afraid to give them my account. Has anyone ever bought from these sellers? Please give your two cents. Thanks!

You're right to be wary of some of these sellers, but if you do choose to buy from them, you should create a Paypal account, that way the worst case scenario is they take your $26.99 and you learn a lesson, and then you don't have to worry about giving them your credit info.

That said, I've never used one of these, sorry....:)

Also, not all sellers from outside the country are bad, I've bought a few items from sellers in China in the past and had good experiences. Just check the feedback prior to purchasing.

Here's a link to a similar one that's a few bucks more but the seller is American. I ordered one last Friday night and it was in my Canadian mailbox the following Friday via USpost. Works great too.

I have that remote release and it works very wll. And I bought it from Hong Kong (different store) without any problem. I have also purchased several other items through Ebay from Hong Kong - flash diffusers, filters, a Kenko teleconverter. Definitely use Pay Pal. Actually, all the stores I have dealt with will only accept Pay Pal payments; they're as afraid of getting stiffed as you are.

Thanks all. I think I will order one at the same place Car2n ordered.

Me too, no problem whatsoever.
I already had a radio remote of a different design, also from the Far East but more expensive than this one, but wanted another with a very small receiver unit and a low price so I wasn't throwing too much money away if my plans didn't work.
They did, so that remote is now fitted inside my battery grip (also a Chinese clone item) It's now permanently fitted to the camera - no more fiddling around getting the rubber cover off to plug a remote in ;-)

Got my Phottix remote today. It works great but something doesn't seem right and I want to confirm with Car2n if you get the same problem. First, after you hook up to the camera, you can not set up anything on your camera like ISO, shutter, apperature, etc. Second, the autofocus is always working like you are holding the release button half way but you're not. Third, you can't playback to see your photo until you unplug the remote. So, before I hookup the remote, I have to set everything the way I want it and after I take shot, I have to unplug the remote to view my photo. Is this correct? Let me know if you get these problem Car2n. Thanks!

vn_aviator - This does not sound right to me. The idea is that you control the camera from afar, not having to sort it before shooting each time, proceed with caution. Keep us posted please as I was hoping to get one on your recommendation.

OK, after an hour fooling around with the remote, I see some of the problems.
1. If you plug the receiver into the camera, you have to turn on the receiver, otherwise, you can't set anything on the camera. Once you turn it on, it works great.
2. The autofocus runs all the time because the release button on the receiver is so sensative. In general, when you press it half way, the AF will begin focusing on the object. On this receiver, even if I slightly put my thumb on the button, it starts to focus and most of the time, it will continue to focus even if I take my thumb off the button. That means the button is still in contact with the AF trigger. The button is just too close to the contact surface, I tested out by blowing air directly to the button and that triggered the AF. I will open the receiver up and see if I can move it up a little higher.
3. When I switch the receiver from "On" to "2S" which is the 2 second delay, it starts shooting continuously until I switch back to "On" or "Off". So that feature is malfunction and I can't do anything about it.

I really don't want to return and get another one since it's only $36.00. I don't use the 2 second delay anyway. So, as they say, "you get what you pay for", I am ok with it for now. There is one advertised on top of this thread for $76.00. It has two buttons instead of one. One for focusing, and the other one to shoot. I don't know how much better it is from this one but you can check it out for yourself. Thanks for your help guys!
