I spotted this little Muskrat along the banks of the Bear River this December past. I was walking the river bridge and he did not hear me when he came up from under the ice. I watched him for a few moments and took a few shots before he spied me . . . and went his way. Mostly these varmints cause problems for us, but we have to learn to share what is left of the country.

Now that is an animal that we don't see so often.
Their pelts used to be highly prized about a hundred years ago.

Judging by the number and variety of wildlife you photograph, I'm beginning to wonder if you aren't really just a zookeeper somewhere; making us all believe these critters are your neighbors. LOL
Another excellent shot. ;-)

Me thinks a zoo would not do so well here in these parts. One can see everything but the elephant for free . . .
Thanks for the kind words . . . one and all.

RJ, some of the guys here have been to the North Woods to shoot Great Gray Owls.
You've been keeping up with the Wyoming Plains wildlife.
Where does anybody go to photograph high altitude wildlife?
RJ, we might have to send you up the Grand Teton to scout up some Marmots for us. I know where they hide out in the Sierra Nevada Range, but that might be a different subspecies. Come to think of it, I'll bet the Marmot and the Muskrat aren't that too distantly related, and probably not that good to eat, either.

Ok . . . don't hold your breath folks, but a wolverine(s) has been sighted in the canyon. So if I get lucky . . . and I watch careful, I might be able to pull off another Weasel shot. The kind that just fall into your lap. It is all just fun and good sport. Who would wear a Muskrat hat btw?

LOL, well they dig little ditches out from the ditch banks into the wheat fields . . . and when you are cutting grain . . . and you lose the machine into a mud hole, in a dry field, it is them 'cute' little vermin that have done you in, lol. I guess I can laugh now. but when you lose a days work with a machine during harvest. You can become a little grumpy with them.

That cute little guy looks cold. Better send Poutine out to bring it home.

Nice shot of the pesky muskrat. Good luck with the wolverine. We saw one in Alaska lat year (Denali NP), but he was 1/4 mile away. Needless to say, my image has a tiny blob that I call a wolverine.

Yes that is my understanding as well. I see a few badgers most years as well. I am looking forward to posting up one of them as well. Do you like your 17-85 as much as I like mine Dave? I just love that lens . . .
