These are nice, I have seen SS portfolios with lower quality shots in them (but these are quite good).

Stephen,

I would replace the swimming photo, or do a little post processing on it. Also on IMG_0565.jpg try and lighten the lead runner, so you can see some facial experession.

Overall, Nice work.

Good Luck

Nice images on SS. My favorite was the the shot of Texas head coach Mack Brown.

Stephen,

You're certainly moving in the right direction.

I like the first three shots - although I'd be tempted to revisit the cropping on all of them.

I prefer the first of the two hurdles shots - the three athletes look firmly focused on the finish line and there is some good symmetry in the image. The second shot looks slightly ramshackle and is not as well composed.

The panoramic shots would probably go down well with the teams pictured - however, they are not folio shots in my opinion.

I wish you luck with your application! Do you have any other pics to show?? I've always found that you can never get enough feedback.

... and, to answer your question, an SS.com sponsor needs to be/become familiar with your work over a period of time. He/she will need to be convinced that your work is at a consistently high standard and that (if accepted) you will always maintain a professional profile on the SS.com message boards etc...

Hope that helps a little.

Scrap the sponsor idea, apply off your own back.

Get together 10 striking images for your application, like Gavin said, the team shots, although nice, wouldn't be appropriate for an SS.com entry.

You got any other shots kicking around which you like?

Not bad work, but I'd like to see more and stronger images.

First one needs more cropping if you want to submit as part of your entry portfolio. I would like to see the moment before he landed in the second shot. Third one is out of focus, slightly, even with great action, I would keep in the bag instead. Fourth one is good. I'd crop 5th one tighter, leave out the one on the right, just keep 3 athletes from left to centre. Pano shots are cool but not the material for sports/action portfolio sake.

Show us more of your shots and keep up the good work :D

I thought that the new requirements to become a member of SS was to be sponsored by a senior member. Maybe a SS member could clarify.

When I applied for SS membership, I didn't have a sponsor, as most current members are US based, it's rather hard for us UK & European shooters to get sponsored. However, they did say on application process that if you couldn't find a sponsor, be sure to have 10 of your best work ready to impress them.

I did, and I was granted membership 2 days later, here I am :)

Same here, just go for it, no harm in trying!
