In the fall we often 'miss' a row or two of the crop at hand, in order to help out with feed and cover for the 'critters' we enjoy so much. It was not until I got a little older that it became clear to me that we sort of took the land from the animals and thus we owe them a little something back. We once kept things so clean . . . burning the ditch banks and harvesting it all, that we were harming the wildlife.
Now we try to farm a little more natural way, leaving the ditch banks with growth for cover, and adding in a few rows of crops for them. They make great cover as well as feed for all of the local food chain.
ANYWAY this is a shot of some corn that was left for the Pheasants, I shot this in late November, the heads had tipped down and soon the birds will be taking the kernels from the cob. Even the tiny wasp was using it as a last minute source of sugar.
I hope you enjoy this shot, it is almost a religious thing, a reverence for all of the wild creatures.
