Very nice Geoff. The circular entry makes a nice frame and guides my eyes right up the path.

The two problems I see are the depth of field and the bland sky.

The building in the background is very soft - try a smaller aperture to get greater depth of field. You've made it the center focal point so I think it should be sharper.

A polarizer might help with the sky, but I think you need a better day for shooting. You could try cropping the image down some - perhaps square, with the top edge just above the ivy on the wall.

A couple of small distractions on the ground in front of the entry. Easy to clone out.

Just my novice observations...

Happy shooting!

Hey,
I agree with Mitch... however I would make it a tighter crop, and I would get rid of the sky, I do not think it's needed in this shot, if anything it's destracting, I also think that the shot is overexposed, so if you get rid of the sky and reshot it at a different time of the day including Mitches suggestions you will have a winner

Thanks very much for taking the time to comment. These independent observations are just what I need.

GEOFF

Look around the Kodak photo site for tips, because an additional option for your to consider irelates to framing and borders.

My take would be to use the bricks to set a rectangular frame that circles in on the center subject. Then everything else would be cropped out.

Anyway that would be my take.

first: what's the purpose of the shot? Did you want to achieve a symmetrical shot? In that case you failed, because it looks tilted. The circle should be in the MIDDLE and all sides should be symmetrical around it, no matter what crop.

Colors seem a little washed out. A little more contrast and saturation? If you don't crop out the sky, try to make it blue.

Good luck.
