View Full Version : Having trouble creating my signature (error message)

I'd like to use the following as my signature:

FlipsidE
"ἐκεῖνον δεῖ αὐξάνειν, ἐμὲ δὲ ἐλαττοῦσθαι."
"He must become greater and greater, and I must become less and less." - John 3:30

But, when I try to save my signature, I get this error message: "Your signature contains too many lines and must be shortened. You may only have up to 5 line(s)."

There are only three lines in my signature. Why is it throwing that error?

I'm not sure about the error you're having, but you should remove the quote from your signature. We do not allow religious discussion or comment here.

I appreciate the heads up, but my signature is not religious discussion or comment. I'm not replying to someone's post with a religious comment nor am I starting a religions discussion or trying to start one with my signature.

I understand the meaning of the "rule" you have in place, but my signature does not defy that rule in any way. If the board owner(s) and/or moderators feel it necessary to add a clause to the rules prohibiting biblical quotes in signatures, then I'll change it.

Until then, though, I'm not disobeying any of the rules of this message board by having that quote in my signature.

Edit: If I was to start a religious debate, start a thread about religion, or reply to a thread with a religion-based comment, then yes, I would be breaking the rule and would have absolutely no problem with removing/rewording my post/thread or having the moderators do so. A quote in a signature is not religious discussion or comment.

Just noticed that the quote stayed but the reference was removed. May I ask why?

Coming in late to this conversation. To answer your question, my guess would be that the saying without the religious attribution is acceptable.
