The macro option on the Canon powershot A serie is just fantastic. With a little imagination and fairly good techniques, it's amazing what those small cameras can do for you. I'm really impressed by the picture quality of the A95. Here's an example, though in order to post that pic here, I had to change the size of the file and the quality isn't the same anymore, but it gives an idea.

I'm not sure if that qualifiies as a macro pic. IIRC, macros are shot normally within a few centimetres from the subject. Nice pic of your girlfriend anyways. :D
Just teasing ya! Enjoy your A95!

Well your right but in standard mode the focus just wouldn't do the job so I had to take it in macro. But it's true that I could have chosen a much smaller subject. I'll try to find something else :)

No I'm with you. The picture is much crisper in the macro mode when shooting within say arms reach.

Monarque, I am not an expert on this but - macro mode on your camera allows you to focus much closer that normal range, however a true macro should have a life size magnification (1:1). Taking a pic in macro mode wont essentially qualify it as a macro.
On the other hand, you can crop your images to fill the frame if you dont get 1:1 magnification straight out of camera :-)

the closeup shot of the object appears sharp but some portions are blown out. the background is quite distracting ..

You're right megaweb, that was just a quick test with a small statue I have in my house. You bet I would choose another background and manage to blur it even more if I were to do it again :)
