I looked up RRS website and see that they recommended their MPR-1 plate to attach to the tripod foot. However, this plate is 6" long with 2 screws and the Bigma tripod collar foot is only 4" long with 1 screw hole. Is this still correct?

The plate I'm using on my 500 f/4 is about 6" long, too, but the tripod collor foot is only 4" long. According to the RRS site, you can adjust the anti-twist flange to 8 different positions so one of those positions should work fine to keep the plate from twisting. If you only need one screw for your lens, you can remove the other screw. The 500 f/4 uses two screws but if your lens only requires one, then that's all you'll need. :)

Thanks PacAce, just looks odd to me to have a lens plate 2" longer, sticking out when the clamp is only around 2". Already emailed RRS, will await their advice.

If you're going to be using a gimbal type tripod like the Wimberley 200HD, you''ll appreciate the longer plate. Makes it much easier to perfectly balance the camera/lens combo so that they stay in whatever position you put them in no matter which way the lens is pointed. :)
