View Full Version : More Desert Shots (Yawn) With Apologies

This is a bit repetitious, but I think the desert is so uncommonly green, I wanted to put these up, if for no other reason than posterity.

As secluded as this looks, it's only a few miles off a paved road. From here, there is absolutely no signs of civilization except for the dirt road I was driving on. Everything is absolutely quiet. No traffic noise, no birds, no nothing. I eventually came across a carload of senior citizens out for a drive, but when they got a look at me, the made a quick u-turn and got the heck out of there. It must be my straw hat, or maybe the camera that looks like a shoulder fired missile.

The apologies are for these pictures which are very much like others I've posted recently. I just felt like taking all you along on a little trip to this secluded spot, miles from nowhere.

Yawn my a**. They are beautiful! The first one I love. This is 100 year event stuff, isn't it Tom?

I don't know if it's once every hundred years or not. I only know for sure that nobody that lives here now has ever seen it this way. It's really amazing.

No need to appologize for posting beautiful photos. And especially not when they show something rare.

I really like the nice blue skye.

Nice colorful pictures. #1 & #2 do not look like deset by the way :-) Actually all of them are too colorful for desert :-)

Wow that's a very different landscape than mine Belmondo. I like the first one best with the wildflowers and the mountains just down the road as they say.

Thanks for sharing that with us.

I suppose if I was a senior and approached by a guy with a Halo in the desert, I might try to ignore him for a while too!;)

Wow! I've never seen the desert like that before...Thanks.

Georgeous shots Tom. I looks like such a nice area to get away from it all.

Never apologize for posting similar stuff. Your shots are quite enjoyable.

Love the crisp atmosphere, and how you composed 1 and 2 with the road to the left
# 3 and 4 , I'd crop some of the foreground, though (IMO)
Where were these taken?

2nd shot is like stepping into warm, friendly weather and colors are great and relaxing(not white and gray like around here-just tired off the winter like everyone else)Great backgrounds. Don't apologize for posting these great images. I may well come back to them for a cheer up of mode throughout the next days.

Looks a lot like Ireland in mid-Summer.
Those shots make me want to be there. The peacefulness and quiet come across very well.

The big difference will be in a few months when there will be not a single trace of green anywhere except the lawns and golf courses, and the average daily temperature is 110-120F. Be glad you're in Ireland.

Those are really nice, Tom!
There is the most amazing straight line at the base of the mountains in the first shot ... rarely do things look that straight in nature - must be a desert thing!

BTW: did you use exposure bracketing/ND filter on that 1st shot?

Nope. I did levels, cranked up saturations just a tick, and sharpened it after reducing the size. In all, I probably spent less than 5 minute getting the shot ready to upload.

Just luck.

BTW, it was really pretty hazy that day, but adjusting levels really solved the problem for me.
