Does anyone know, offhand, if the USB cable supplied with the Canon 10D is high-speed (USB2) or low-speed (USB)? Is it possible to tell by looking at the connectors or do you have to test it by connecting it?
[Edit: I forgot to mention that I'm asking because I want to reuse the cable for something else. I realize that the 10D does not have a high-speed USB port.]

AFAIK the cable doesn't come into it - it's a piece of wire, and should work with USB1 or USB2. I wouldn't bet my house on it, but I use whatever cable happens to be lying around, and i've never had a problem. Actually I don't have a house... ;)

What Tim said,. (Tim you just won a brand new House!!!!!)
...USB cables can work either way,. they are not a bottle neck.
Which leads us to a consumer tip.
If anyone is selling a "USB2" cable at a higher price. Stop shopping from them! :)

In fact there once was a difference between USB 1 & 2 cables: to comply with FCC regulations, the second ones had to be shielded (USB 1 were not). Thus USB 2 cables were (and still are) often made with a transparent/translucent outer envelope to let the shelding be visible.
Now non-shielded USB cables are not manufactured any more and all cables are up to rev.2.
Btw. do note that this shielding doesn't make the cable be faster than a non-shielded one; it's only supposed to stop any RF disturbance in order "... to comply with the FCC regulation #blahblahblah". ;)
And yes, CDS is right: don't waste your money in purchasing expensive "high-speed USB2" cables: they all are, the only difference is that sellers may be (or ain't) crooks.

LOL, I didn't know that the cable were the same. I was just at Fry's the other day and they still sell USB1 and USB2 cables. Thanks, everyone.

Steve, when you are at Fry's, you can get your high-speed cable and your high-speed potato chips, all on the same aisle.
