Lioness - Kruger National Park, South Africa

Ok, let me have it!
(Disclaimer: this is the first time i've used RAW, a telephoto lens, or photoshop for anything other than crop & heal.)

the processed is way to dark and the colour is off, as the sand in front of the lioness seems to be turning yellow/gold

You need to start over with your PS work.
Post a link to the original and let some of us give it a try and next time you'll know how to do it.

You made the same mistake I keep making and am working hard to break. The shot is centered on the cats head and you've cut off her feet.

I wanted the background to be dark. I'm having trouble getting the cat any brighter without looking either washed-out or oversaturated. This is the feel i was going for:

That would be great. RAW or JPEG? Is a RAW to large to attach here?

I know. She walked right in front of our car - i was fumbling around like crazy trying to switch lenses and out the whole series, that's the only one where she's looking in my direction. I guess that is the frustration that is wildlife photography :)

Not just animals. Friday night was my first time ever shooting a hockey game and 90% of my shots had something cut off.

If you post a Jped resized to 1024px (on the larger side), and turn Image Editing On, many would be more than happy to show you different takes of PPing on this image, and give an idea of how to do it. I honestly feel theres a lot of scope for this one.

I too feel that your edit is a bit dark, and lacks contrast, esp in the background.

Ok - Here's the original, WB set to 5500, resized to 1024x683

What you did with the eyes looks nice, but yeah it's too dark

Here's my quick try at it, my first time editing someone's image on here. I just raised the red channel, then messed with exposure and contrast/brightness in photoshop. I think the red really got rid of that gray cast it had to it, in the background especially. It could probably still use some more contrast in the background.

In that case, focus working on learning how to use curves; this should be your main tool doing something like what you described.
