Male (the eyes are touching, the female's eyes are separate) Banded Eye Drone shot at twice life size with a Canon MPE-65mm macro lens. I have no idea what the name of the plant is, but it grows like a bush and since it started blooming about a week ago (in November!) it's just about the only thing the critters are feeding off of. Since it produces flowers in a cluster it's not so easy to get the angles that I want without getting robbed by the foreground (and sometimes the background is a problem). Most of the time I'm not holding onto the flower the fly is on and there's no way I can turn it so I pretty much have to take what I can get.

good work, late bloomers must be a welcome food source.

Hiya DT,

Excellent series of shots, I'm wondering what if any purpose the banding serve apart from camouflage ????

Cheers for now

No idea Mark -I've often wondered if it is some sort of cammo trick...
