Taking pictures through a window?

My prior 35mm camera had a setting so you could take pictures through a window.....the camera would not read the window or the screen and would focus on the distant object.

Is there any kind of setting like this on a digital cam? I specifically have a Canon A85. It just focuses on my screen when I try......

Have you tried manually focusing? That is what I have to do sometimes.

You can do 2 things

1. press set and move the tiny box in the center towards where the window frame is.

2. (the lazy way) target the window frame then half press on the focus release (don't release). Frame your final shot, then shoot.
