Looking for a backup camera and I'm considering getting a 35mm EOS something...
i'm looking for a "cheap" camera and by this i mean under 400 bucks or so. Can this buy a cood quality SLR? My main concern is that it has a metal body and will last a few years (because I have/will have good optics and film) so the body has little to do with the pictures. Have any of you gone this route, or just gotten a digital rebel as your spare?

Pitch me a sale please :-)

well the Digital Rebel's frame is made out of metal, even though the outside is plastic. If you wait a little while, the price will most likely drop considerably (...again) after its replacement will be introduced to the market.

I agree.........the Rebel is one sturdy camera...........

Since you already have a 20D, Its probably better to just have a digital back-up......
Look around for some used camera in good condition.........they probaby will go down to around 400-500 USD come April or May.

Michael,

chance is that you will rarely use a film body.
I'd rather spend 500$ on a DRebel than 400$ on a film body.

However, if you want to go that route, the Elan33 might be the body to get.

Best regards,
Andy

I use digital as a backup to my film body. currently a 20D. Even if I did get a 1DMKII, it still be a back up for my film. I just sold my Elan 7e + BP-300 on ebay for $232. which was a backup as well.
