View Full Version : WORLDWIDE PHOTO WEEK: PART 139 -- Nostalgia
BLS
17th of November 2008 (Mon), 08:08
The theme for this week is "Nostalgia." Be as imaginative/creative as you like when interpreting the topic -- the sky's the limit!
Here are the rules:
1. Shots need to be taken between sunrise Monday and sunset the following Sunday. Because this activity is supposed to encourage us to get out and shoot, please don't post old shots from your archives. Snap shots and art are equally welcome -- just get out & shoot, and then share!
2. Post your shots at any time during the week.
3. Post a maximum of two shots if you're uploading them to POTN (i.e., attaching them). You can post more than two if you're linking to shots that are not hosted by POTN (i.e.,embedding them), but keep within POTN rules. Also keep within POTN rules about size. A copy of the size rules can be found here: http://photography-on-the.net/forum/...d.php?t=194511 (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=194511)
An index to previous weeks can be found here: http://photography-on-the.net/forum/...d.php?t=170603 (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=170603)
That's it! Have fun!

Can't believe I'm the first to post.
Near my home there was a Mom & Pop amusement park.
The owner passed away last year, and his estate is being settled.
The park is now used as a weekly flea market.
The rides in the park are closed.
Many of the older ones are partially or completely dismantled.
The newer ones are gone without a trace; sold & removed, I guess.
Here's a shot of some cars from the rides.
They're lined up ready for an auction.
And, to me at least, they seem nostalgic and sad.
The end of an era.

BLS,
Interesting (and sad but now safe) Nostalgia :)
I bet the cars in the background are old bumper cars but the ones in the front are? old roller coaster cars maybe?

You guys are killing me -- Maybe I should just do a self portrait!
Barbara -- nice find I remember when they tore down all the rides here on our boardwalk -- sad day really.
Love the old film roll John.
Nice one Joayne - does it still work??

It looks like more than one of us thinks of old music when we are being nostalgic.

Tough topic, but you made me go digging in the basement! Taken tonight to keep the thread alive. And, better yet, now I am going back downstairs to the basement to look at all the old slides.

Yes, the ones in the back are bumper cars.
The orange one in front: I don't have a clue.
The blue & red ones in front are from a ride called the tilt-a-whirl.
John -- I agree with monty -- the old film is special.
Joayne -- Nice piece!
Dave -- Your albums made me smile. Gee, three volumes of gold records for Elvis. Prolific.
Adam -- I smiled at your slide projector too. Nice angle. I bet the slide show brought back lots of memories.
I'm glad we did "nostalgia" this week.
I'm really enjoying the shots.

Some nice nostalgia this week.. Love the album treatment in the B/W and the sepia for the projector.. Ahhhhhh the family vacations on slides!
Yes the Radio/Phonograph still work, but the wiring is original and a bit scary.
I don't keep it plugged in...

Yes it does, 78 rpm records. I have a rather large collection, tho every time I go through them more are broken. It is so dry out here that they become very brittle.

Great pix everyone! What I really love about this weekly challenge is that I never would have had the enjoyment of pulling out the gear yesterday, let alone the creative challenge. Bring on next week.

That's pretty much the same for me.
Without the weekly challenge I'd probably be wandering around muttering "what to shoot, what to shoot.":(

Time to think about next week (yeah, I almost forgot ).
How do these sound to you?
1. Trap
2. Work
3. Precision
Any ideas you'd like to add?
What appeals to you?

Precision could be fun. Trap might be okay. But who on Earth wants to do any work? ;)
