Please Share Your Readiness Checklist

In order to avoid forgetting necessities when going out for a shoot, I tend to make notes or leave my camera bag open, the camera flipped up on end so I see the battery is not inserted, etc.

Please share with us any method you use, be it a written checklist or a string tied around your digit, that helps you remember to bring everything you need to a shoot.

Mine isnt a written checklist but a mental one.

I tend to list the various items in my head and then physically check them. Im lucky though, my camera bag contents very rarely change other than adding a tripod/monopod.

The checks tend to be :
Camera - batteries in grip/spares in bag, CF card loaded/spare in bag.
Lenses - check they are in the pockets they should be.
Filters - check all present in bag
Flash - check flash (with betteries loaded), check spare sets in bag pocket.

All in all it takes me 2 mins to check the list against the bag. I am pretty conscientious with regards to putting everything back where it should be after a shoot as well though.

I have no check list - I usually only take one lens with me, occasionally the speedlite, and my smallest card is 2 Gb which is more than enough since I gave up on spray and pray style shooting. I'm obsessive about keeping everything charged up, so no worries about batteries either.

So you're pretty much bailed out of the Canon boat? that nikon gear seems lovely though - all the best stuff! I still expect Canon to blow it all out the water sooner than later though...

When planning to shoot in the morning I get everything ready and put it in front of the door the night before. I would make a list but I would more than likely forget where I put it.
During the week while driving about I will geotag cool things that I see on my iphone so that I can revisit them in the good light.

Much like many others here, I only hang out on the forum and never take any pictures, so not being ready is not an issue.

Because I tend to be gone for 8-12 hours of the day I tend to start a night or two before

Batteries: all my charged batteries get put in the left hand side of my vest or bag, any uncharged batteries are on the right so I know to charge them.

Cameras: Dial in my settings the night before if I know what track I'm going to be at, check for any large chunks of dust or oddities.

Lenses: Inspect all the lenses before I leave, make sure filters are attached and elements are clean.

Storage: Move my P3000 backups to the computer and back it all up, clear the device of any used space and leave it plugged in to charge overnight. Wipe all memory cards (format in camera) to be safe and test them with a few shots to make sure it's still good.

Misc - Put some rain sleeves in the bag (forgot this a few times), monopod and jackets in the trunk with a small cooler of snacks and some water bottles in the freezer and water/gatorade in the fridge (I hate paying $3 for a bottle of water at the track).

And of course, the most important part is make sure that I have my passes/tickets in my wallet or under my phone the night before so I can actually enter the event :)

i leave everything in my bag which sits on the backseat of my f150. CF cards I keep in those plastic cases they come in in the cupholder or in camera or spares in bag. I keep tripod and monopod under backseast. I dont forget anything at home, i usually end up forgetting something after hiking to a location and the truck is nowhere near.
