Can anyone tell me if it is possible to register all images on a website with the US copyright office in one batch by referring to the actual website rather than registering each image individually?

You have to send them a copy but you can submit multiple images as part of one collection for one fee.

You cant say " I want to copy right the images on my web site." But you can put the images on a CD and register them that way. As stated you can batch process them. And you do not have to send in full rez ones. They only need to be able to be reproduced (printed) for use in court. So compress them to where a 8X10 can be printed. This way you can pack as many on a DVD as possable and cover them all in one shot.

"by referring to the actual website"

Are you asking whether you can provide the address of a website that currently displays the photos instead of making a deposit with the copyright office?

If so, no.

For group registration, review the requirements here:
