I did a quick search and couldnt really find much information on a nice P&S for a lower level price. Need something that will take good family pictures indoors and outdoors along with being easy to use(at least not hard to use) and somewhat compact. Budget is 100-350 depending on features and how well recommended it is. Thanks!
Also, new/available from major retailers only please!

I would recommend pretty much any of the SD*is series camera the 1100s are nice, they are very compact, mostly auto, and as easy to use as your gonna get.

I would recommend you take a look at the A590is. It has a decent amount of zoom (6x), uses AA batteries, has iamge stabilization, takes very nice pics and offers the best bang for the buck IMHO of all the Canon point and shoot cameras.
The SD series are decent too, but you pay a price for the smaller size ($80 more for the cheapest SD series camera that has image stabilization). Worth it if that is important to you, but the A590is isn't that much bigger.

the A590IS is a plastic body correct? I like the SD elph series myself. Small and square but pretty capable stuff in the right hands. I prefer the rechargeable battery packs too.

I would rather have an a590 myself, but I answered based on what I would probably get my mother. I got her an sx100is a few months ago and it hasn't even been out of the box yet, I think she is afraid of it, going form a kodak, where an sd1000 she probably would have been using right away. I got a really good deal on it though...

We bought A570IS cameras for our 7 year old daughter and our 11 year old niece. Our daughter has no problems using the camera at all, and is even taking some pretty creative shots. This is going to be the best bang for your buck; you can find them for <$100 if you know where to look.
