I'm in Ukiah, I'll be down in Freemont on Wednesday for work. Have a meeting that gets over at 5PM. I'm sure it won't take me 10 minutes to get through that rush hour like it does for our "rush hour" here:mad::lol::lol:

I'm in Ukiah

Know it well, although it's not usually a destination for me. Passing through. :D

But I pass through frequently - Ukiah is the eastern end of Orr Springs Road, also called Comptche-Ukiah Road. The west end is Mendocino.

Wonderful ride, and Orr Springs looks like a great place to stop if I want to get naked and soak in hot mineral waters with a bunch of aging hippies.:lol::lol:

(No offense intended to aging hippies: I'm 66 years old and lived in the Haight Ashbury in the '60s.)

There is actually alot of those "hippy watering holes" around here. I drive a Pepsi truck and have to deliver to that little store in Comptche. Though I've never taken the truck over CU Road:lol:

Mendocino is a great little village. My parents live near there and that is where my wife and I got married, St. Anthony's Church.

Comptche! All roads lead to Comptche. Do you know the hotel across the street from the store? It's been closed since the late 1940s, I'm told, still has the furnishings. It was a stopover on the route from Mendocino to Ukiah (the county seat) when horse drawn wagons were the way you got your supplies.

Oh, you owe it to yourself to drive a Pepsi truck over that road! Potholes! Really tight hairpin turns! All the things that are fun for motorcycle riders. We'll be reading about you in the paper the next week, while they're still trying to get your truck around that curve it couldn't make.

I love the area. Mendocino is a wonderful town - I wonder how many people know that it was the "New England" town filmed in "Murder, She Wrote"?

I usually stay in Fort Bragg when riding up that way.

Did I mention that this is my favorite riding area?

Just an observation but, when gas prices were over $4 a gallon we were told by the oil executives, and it was repeated incessantly by the media, that the reason was high demand. In particular they always pointed to China as being the new large oil consumer in the world. Now that gas prices are low are we supposed to believe China no longer uses oil? Or that the world in general has reduced it's consumption by almost half? Seems rather doubtful.

I can sorta' believe it (not really)...China had to power an awful lot of bull dozers and other heavy equipment to build enough prisons to hide all the Falon Gung and other dissenters in time for the Olympics. Now that all that's in decline I guess they're content to going back to using good ol' manpower to handle the workload. ;)

If everybody did like me, they stopped filling up their tank, and resorted to trying to put a few dollars in here, and a few dollars in there, mostly when gas could be found at it's lowest prices. They also drove less overall and tried to get the most bang for their gas(routing, planning) whenever they did drive.....

Hmmm. Maybe not.

Last summer I went on two 3-day motorcycle rides with friends. We generally get around 45-50 mpg. It can cost as much as $15 to fill my tank at high prices.

I was delighted to find tourist traffic on California Highway 1 was close to zero from San Francisco to the end of Hwy. 1 south of Eureka.

The locals were driving, of course, things to do and places to go. But the locals also know about highway courtesy and using turnouts when somebody wants to pass. Never a problem with the locals.

I say: "Let's see gas at $6 per gallon!"

I drove a beater of a '86 Toyota truck till the wheels fell off until mid '07 and then went ape sh!t and bought a Tundra. All the sudden the gas goes to the troposphere and I cut the tank into half at all fillups - cut the speed to 55 whenever possible. It was down around 1.35/gallon here but just jumped to 1.49.

As far as oil prices go, the slowing global economy HAS decreased demand, but also speculation on futures has largely collapsed as well. Those 2 factors have dropped oil prices and thus gas prices. China is starting to suffer because the US economy is so bad and we buy LOTS of stuff from china.
Thats the simple version. There are lots of factors involved as well.
Just additionally noting that all the money the oil companies make? a fairly small percentage of that profit goes to "rich executives" Most of it goes to shareholders and LOTS of those shares are tied up into peoples 401Ks and other retirement accounts. SO when oil prices collapse, so does the value of their retirement.

I know of several people who have airplanes modified to burn auto fuel instead of AvGas and they maintain their own refuling truck.

They're not immune to the woes of pricing, but the changes come more slowly and sometimes in bigger steps. They might be burning $2/Gal gas right now...

Of course, if they don't burn it fast enough, it may be back to $2/Gal by the time they refil their truck!

Went from $1.26 Tuesday when I gassed up to $1.39 yesterday. I knew it was about to go up and I had 1/4 tank. Filled up for $20 on the dot :D

Still cant complain but we will see what these prices do. Oil fell almost $6/bbl (~12%) Tuesday or yesterday. It's down another 3% today so far... so I dont think that scare of reduced supply made a big impact.

Since gas is creeping back, does that mean the Economy will as well? I know when the economy started slipping, Everyone said "don't worry, if gas prices plummet, then we got issues."
Well our economy nearly crashed as have gas prices....Maybe our economy will also pull a U-turn?
I mean I don't want high gas prices, but if that's what it takes to get companies back on their feet and help us keep our jobs, I think it's well worth it.

Hopefully, when the economy bounces back Obama will keep gas prices low by keeping an eye on speculative (greedy) investors that pumped up the price of oil to begin with.

I would love for that to happen! But some reason...I don't think it will :/ I guess we will jsut wait and see ;)

I don't think you have to worry about 4$ a gallon gas anythime in the near future (unless something major happens). I would like it to stay around 70-80 dollars a barrel, this is good for everyone.

Fine Keep an eye on speculators, but what about China and India and other developing nations increasing the demand which raises prices.

$1.39 here. With oil prices dipping again it *should* come back down.... but we all know how that goes... takes weeks to come down and 2 seconds to go up.

And isn't it interesting that with each cycle, the floor never quite returns as low as before...?

Hmmmm, coincidence? I think not....
