This game is to help those of us who are trying to learn new tricks when it comes to editing.

Here's the breakdown of the game. I will post a picture that I choose, resized to exactly 1024 pixels maximum on the long side. Outside of being resized it has to be unedited...meaning no adjustments to any levels, it has to look like it did as it came out of the camera.

The game will last 48hrs and whoever can produce the best edited image (as judged by me) will be picked and it'll be their turn to post their unedited picture for all of us to take a crack at.

The participants must have their "Image Editing OK" turned on and they must provide at least a simple breakdown of how they edited the image, some entrants are a little vague on this point, please give us all details so we can learn and share tips. For instance if you use the unsharp mask tool or Smart Sharpen, provide us with the adjustments you used so others can try them out.

You can post multiple images, but the first image you post will be the one that is judged - all other images will be considered for knowledge and tip use only.

Also, please keep all comments, be they positive or negative, to yourself until after the game has ended.

If you happen to be the winner of the game please start the next one with the title of the game and the following number. For example…the next game should read "Before and After #132".

This is all about having fun so have at it!!!
Any edit, over-the-top creative or subtle, is encouraged!

This game will end on Thursday, November 19, 2008 at 10:00am pst

Here is a shot from Red Rock Canyon, that day the clouds were so amazing and the light shining through the mountains had to be seen...i loved this one green plant amongst the desert. Lets see what you can do

finally I have some time to play :)

Thanks for putting in 3 exposures.

I tonemapped this using photomatix pro
used viveza to lighten/darken the sections that I wanted emphasized
used nik's brilliance warmth filter to add some depth to the shot
straightened and cropped
used a slight NR

This looks like fun... wonder why I never noticed these contests before.?

Here are the steps I took:
http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f260/preacherspulpit/Touchups/Touchup65A.jpg

I took the middle of the three and used multiple adjustment levels and masks to bring out the detail I started with a mask of just the ground, then desaturated and lowered opacity to bring out more detail. Then I did a levels adjustment with mask for the ground. I did a contrast adjustment with that same mask for the ground, and a second, slightly different contrast mask for the sky. Hue/Sat adjustments to sky and ground seperately and a levels mask for the sky. Then I dropped the lightest of the 3 on top and dropped opacity to 60% to add some highlights to the sky. I did a selcetive color adjustment on the sky, masked it off to bring up the light rays and clouds near the mountains. Last, but not least, I did a color overlay on the yucca plant to bring out a little more green color.

Sounds like a lot, but I mostly fussed with it, tweaking adjustment levels and opacity until I got the effect I liked.

And here is the touchup

Ran high pass filter on layer w\opacity set at 30%. Merged
Dodge and burn. Mostly used to Lighten up the foreground

I thought this shot should look like it was a Tintype photographed by Mathew Brady.

Cropped to make it look more panoramic.
USM: 75%, NN: 7% across the board to smooth out a bit.
Nik Color Effex: Paper Toner to convert to monochrome
Nik Color Effex: Low Key filter painted across clouds and mountains.
Nik Color Effex: Tonal Contrast across mountains to bring out detail.
Nik Color Effex: Polariod Transfer just to adjust edges.
Color Balance Adjustment: Cyan 25%, Magenta 20%, Yellow -11%

Tonemapped in photomatix
Smart selected Blue sky, Gaussian blur applied, set fill level to about 75%
Created new circular gradient, applied filters: wave, and radial blur to layer. set to overlay
Cloned out green plant and rocks in the foreground.

Insert 3 photo to cs3 from place command. After that adjusted somethings like curve, saturation, filters vs main color and so on ..... End of procedure increased sharpness
