G3 zoom

As you probably know, the G3's lens is 35-140mm(35mm equivalent). Is there any way I can figure out at what point to stop zooming to come close to 50mm? It's probably around 2x or 3x zoom right? But as far as I can figure out, only 4x zoom shows up on the LCD and display.

I dont think there is any way to tell it straight forward. You can check exif data later to figure out focal length was used to shoot it but I dont think there is anyway to check it in real time while composing shots....
