I am trying to decide if I should buy the 300mm lens. I shoot dog events such as agility and shows, soccer and baseball. I currently have a Sigma 120-300mm 2.8 and a Canon 24-70 2.8 L and and a 1d mkII. If I get this lens will it just be over kill on the 300 end or would I have a use for it ?

Well the optics just can't be beat,. it is one of the best lenses Canon ever made,.

Since you allready have the excellent Sigma 120-300mm,. then I would think that you would be by far the one person best equipped to answer your own question :)

If your Zoom spends all its time pegged at 300mm.. then it certainly could be a prime :)

scc1266, I just recently picked up a used 300mm 2.8 non-is, and had my doubts because i also have the 100-400mm is lens and thought i'd have no use for the 300mm. I was wrong took, I it out on a nice day to shoot some local baseball and it was so easy to use and i didn't even think about putting my 100-400mm lens on. When i got home to do some editing every thing that was in focus was super sharp, so sharp that i'm thinking about selling the 100-400mm soon to pick up a 70-200mm lens. even though it was a bit hard to get used to shooting at a fixed focal legnth but soon enough it was no problem at 300mm all day long. Hope this helps a little on your decision. If you get this lens you won't be disappointed
