I just recently got a PowerShot S500 Elph and was wondering if there's any manual settings that can help in low light and smoky atmospheres (i.e. bars and clubs)? I usually try to just increase the ISO speed but it doesn't seem to work. All suggestions are appreciated.

All you can do is use a wider aperture and increase the ISO. Alternately, use the flash. Low light stuff is difficult.

The good news is the price of digital SLR's are coming down... With the introduction of Rebel XT looming, you can pick up the original Rebel (300D) used for $500 +/-.
