I know I'm evil for doing it in secret. Gah, I should just cancel the blasted order and have people think better of me. I just got the body. I'm ok with my lens lineup at the moment.

No....not until tax time when I have to give him the receipt. My goal for this year is to make at least twice what I paid for the camera shooting pictures so he has nothing to razz me about. I want to actually SHOW a profit from red fox photography this year.

I'm not a drinker. In fact I usually drink to a point where I would not drive once a year. I am such a wimp.
it's only 2 or 3 times a year for me. It used to be a nightly thing. Seriously had a drinking problem and went to AA. If done in moderation it's ok.
Me too. About the only thing (alcohol) I drink is Church wine on Sundays which is about a sip of backwash.
EWWWWW
EEEwwww...
I'll have a glass of wine or a beer occasionally, but not enough to get buzzed.
I rarely do that either.
Uh huh, I hope you also remember the conversation where you promised to send me all your camera gear for personal inspection ;)
yeah I don't have any better gear than you. I have an xt with a crap ass kit and a 75-300 that is all.

I think I'm gonna stick with wanting just the 5D1. Less coin. I don't need the video.
I'm an instant kind of girl. My best buy has both and the m2 is a couple hundred less. I pay cash for everything so I'll probably have to go instore anyways.
Edumacate me because I'm too lazy to look. If I'm dropping at least $2K on a camera I want to make sure it's THE one.

Um can I say I'm thankful to have missed that storm. The bruise on my backside is finally fading and the pain in my back is starting to go away from the fall I had from the last ice storm that rolled through here.
Have you gotten any photos from yours?
Talk to me about your websites. What are the pros? What are the cons? I'm starting to shop around and figure out what I want.
I get my "new" van this week. It's only a year newer but I'm upgrading from a Caravan Sport to a Grand Caravan. The kids have to have the room in the back. My poor girls knees are smooshed into the seat in front of her already and she's 8. My current van goes up for sale as soon as I get my new one. I get all the proceeds from it :D it blue books at $3800. We're listing it at $3400. Wonder what I'll be buying? ;)
I hope everyone is having a fabulous day already. My kids are back in school today so I'm enjoying the quiet before the littlest one gets up, he's still sleeping.

*sigh* went snowboarding yesterday. Front of my board was slightly damaged but after a few runs it became wrecked beyond repair so I had to rent a board. Uncle jammed his thumb, then we came home (tired as heck). Woke up this morning and mom told me that the aunt and uncle's dog had died about 5 this morning. Talk to me about your websites. What are the pros? What are the cons? I'm starting to shop around and figure out what I want.
Pros:
I am happy with it. It is very easy to edit/maintain/update. It loads fast, even on government networks :) The new theme I have shows off larger images, 600x900px. I am able to have external links if I want... I use one for my blog.
They do have areas for meta tags. Again - definitely not the most searchable, but I think that is improving as time goes on and flash is more prevalent in the web world. So, with that, I guess I dont consider it a pro or a con - it's just there.
Cons:
Would like to change 2 aspects of my website and can't. I knew that going in so if you are able to compromise somewhere, I guess that's what needs to be done. Another con is it's a template (again I knew that) so you can still stand out, but others can pick your site off as a blu site in a second. In my area, there is one other photographer with a blu site. The others are so crappy that I cant stand looking at them.
I have been really happy with blu's services and products to this point. They have treated me well and taken care of me with my old site when I was having an issue with my galleries not loading due to an improper folder permission being set during the setup.
I hope this helps. Take a look at different sites, and not necessarily blu sites either. Figure out what it is that you like and disklike about sites and go from there. Make a list - then see what it is that you want/need.
I'm now debating putting music on my site just for that "something" extra. Music has long been looked at as a bad thing when visiting a site. With myspace coming out with music for profiles, I think that has opened up a lot for personal websites. As long as the song fits in with the site, I dont see a huge issue with it. And of course the visitor can turn off the music if they'd like.

I like the look of the ones that will load for me. Jeff, yours won't....Tiff's will for some reason, CheetaPita's won't....that sort of thing.
Smugmug sites always load for me, as well as...um, what's the other one...Zenfolio I think. My understanding is that they're pretty customizable. I know mine is.

Good. Lots of ideas rattling around in my head keeping me from sleeping but they're necessary to help pay for the 5D. My kiddos are great. Ian is starting to be more fun...giggling and such. Aidan is just a riot. He learned what a wolf says and loves to howl around the house now.
I'm busy self-teaching about photoshop and actions. I wrote an action last night to help me play with textures...it lets me choose the texture I want...puts it on a layer and lets me resize...changes the blend mode, adds a layer mask and poof...all I do is paint over where I don't want it. I'm also working one out in my brain how to add a copyright logo thingie to my images. I have a template worked out but I want to turn it into an action.
I just need to be able to not sleep so I can get everything I want to done.
And, woohoo on making it through the rough patch and woohoo on the possibilty of a new body. Which one?

If things work out right, I might even be able to afford a new body by spring! Wooohoooo!
Cosmetic surgery? What do you have in mind?

I am glad things are going well for you. Kids are the best. They can be frustrating at times, but watching them learn and grow is nothing less than amazing.
I need to spend some more time in photoshop too. I want to work on designing some overlays that I can use for some images I have.
I would love to buy a 5D. I am not certain which body I am going to get. I think it all depends on how much I can pull in from shooting. I have decided to set aside all my moneys from photography to go to a new body. If things work out the way I am thinking they will, I might be able to afford the new 5D. Only time will tell.

Yeah, been spending time in the gym to work on getting back in to better shape. I am in fairly good shape now, but I need to step it up a level. Since I can't afford cosmetic surgery, I have to resort to more traditional methods, like hard work and strict diet . . . talk about fighting a losing battle!

Ok, this reminds me of something that happened recently (relax people, it's a funny story). My buddy had spent the afternoon with his son (Wyatt - six years old) at the planetarium trying to explain to him about the planets and the universe and attemping to have an idea of how huge the universe is. Two days later, on Wyatt's mother's birthday, he proudly presented her with a card which was adorned with planets that he had cut out from his coloring book. The inside of the card read: "I love you to Uranus and back! Love Wyatt"
I have been trying to get her to scan the card so I can post it up. Jeff, might even remeber Wyatt. He was the only boy that Jeff and Shari have . . .

Sounds cool. I'm hoping I'm happy with the 5D1 and won't regret not getting the Mk2. But, since most of my bread and butter should be studio stuff, I think I'll be ok.

The difference between the two is quite a bit... but relatively speaking, $700 isn't too bad though. Just tell youself the 5D is good and you'll be fine ;)

The difference between the two is quite a bit.... But not really where it matters. For prints up to 11x16 I'm betting that you would not be able to tell the difference between the two cameras. You can probably toss in the 50D as well. For studio work your just not going to see the differences.
Tiff, be happy with you new 5D. It's an awesome tool and though there have been many cameras introduced sonce the 5D was, it still holds it's own and until recently was used by everyone as the gold standard which they measured themselves by, including Nikon.

Makes me want one..... twice the amount of ram I have now, more power, and an 8 hour battery, rated up to 1000 charges before needing to be replaced where apple sent me a new battery due to swelling not long ago.

And it just keeps coming, it hasn't stopped at all today.
Bah. Snow. Blech. We still have ice coating the sidewalks...the last thing we need is snow.
That was the biggest problem yesterday, there was a layer of ice, and then it snowed on it.
We've already had 2 snow days, 1 late start, and 1 early release because of the weather. We only have 1 more snow day left before we have to make them up.
I hope like crazy this year doesn't end up as bad as last.
Ya, but you guys get a snow day when you only have a few inches, we have to have 18+ inches before they even think about closing schools, and even then they usually don't do it.

Wow, well you have gotten a lot this year - we havent. Snow on ice sucks, for sure.
and yes - I remember going to school with 15" on the ground. It took another day full of snowing, totaling 19" before they canceled school for 3 days. I know how that goes :)
