I agree.. Now thats only my inlaws!!! My wife has 11 Aunts and uncles who also live in our town and also drop in about once a week which is not bad for one aunt or uncle but when you have 11 of them coming over spread out over a week it gets VERY crazy at my house!
My wife has a very large Portugese family and aparently for them its nothing to spend all there time together and they don't mind it.. but for me i come from a family of one brother and my parents.. Thats all the family i have had for the last 20 years of my life and i am only 30 now so i am not use to this and i find it an intrusion on my life.
Portuguese family....that explains it.
I'd go along with what Z said....set up visiting hours or even start the tradition of a once weekly pot luck at your house for the extended family. They just have to learn to respect your boundaries. And, I hear you on the small fam to big fam transition. I still hate my hubby's big family gatherings.

Have you seen "My Big Fat Greek Wedding"? If not, I'd recommend it. Sounds very similar. Reminds me of my family vs. my first girlfriend's family.
Yea i watched it and you know for the last 9 years we have been together i had no issues with the large family, and the big get togethers and such.. its just the crap going on with her inlaws always over!
Don't get me wrong they are great help and they buy lots of goodies for the baby :D saves me the expense but man i need some space, and my wife is starting to see it but she wont speak up against them!

My house is not big enough for 40 of them to show up !!! :D I mean we bought this house as our 3 year house the idea was a starter home smaller for our first couple of years of marriage and such.. Then buy bigger and start a family.
Well i could not wait on the family thing so we got that a year ahead of time and now i am trying to find a house in another province!!!!!
I alteast have my wife agreed to buying north of where we are now so they would have to drive about 45 mins to get to our house.. thing that sucks is its 45 mins farther for my parents.. but i know if her family have to make an effort they wont!!!

My family and my in-laws are spread across the country so we never get drop-ins. When it takes a plane or an 8 hour car ride, everything is carefully planed.
my ex mother in law was overbearing and irritating and down all the time. We moved 45 min south of her to get away from her and she would still come and bug us at least 4 times a week. I'm no longer married to her son and no longer in Ga so that makes things easier. She calls all the freakin time but I can ignore her calls now.
I have family nearby. My sister in law lives 4 blocks away, mom 11 miles, and his dad and that side of the family are 20 miles away. We don't see them unless they call or we call. The other inlaws are in southern Illinois so I don't see them much. I've been very blessed this time around and not having an overbearing inlaw set.

Not to mention the COST is killing me!
Every time her parents come over my wife offers them drinks and they never refuse so on average i would say her father would drink a couple of beer or a bottle of wine which i would offer to any guest coming over but i mean we are talking EVERY freaking day! The other day they came over and i was sitting on the couch and he got up i assumed going to the washroom went into my laundry area where we store snacks and have a fridge and comes out with a bottle of wine and a thing of unopened bree cheese ( the round wheel cheese thing :D ) so i said to him that Liz had bought that for another night when we have guest coming over.. and he got all ofended ended up talking to Liz i portuguese and then she turned to me and said it was fine she will buy another one tomorrow.. I mean come on around here thats a good $20+ for it.
When i go to his place i drink water at lunch maybe some soda if her brother brings a bottle to the table and only take whats put on my plate!

She has a Winnie the Phoo wash tub but one night i was in the tub she was about 7 weeks old then and my wife was sitting on the toliet ( not using it ) talking to me and Abby was just so locked in on looking at the water so i took her from my wifes hands cloths and all and dunked her in with me.. and she loved it! She actually cried when Liz took her out so pulled her back in and she went to all smiles!
Word of advice!!! Wait till they do there evening duties before bringing them in the water... Its amazing how the water goes from crystal clear to muddy looking VERY fast :D

Well no such luck on talking Mark into letting us go home today :( But as long as no work orders show up by the COB on Wednesday, we get Friday off too! That'd be a very nice treat - 4 day weekend with plenty of time for us to move! As long as I dont get called in :D. I dont mind being on call for Thanksgiving though. I get Christmas and New Years off!!!!!
I also got a call yesterday about a wedding for July 18 next year, which is the first weekend of Cheyenne Frontier Days and it is a big event for the AF. We get all sorts of distinguished visitors that roll in, and we get to shadow them while they're here - from breakfast, to lunch, to parades, rodeos, nightshows, luncheons at the governor's mansion, wing commander's house, general's house etc. The list goes on. Well - I'd rather make $2000 with a wedding than just a couple hundred with work LOL. We'll see how it goes. I could do the wedding and then catch the closing weekend that way it's fair - Berni shadows them for a weekend and I do the other.
I even had another call yesterday for a wedding May 23. A lady named Barb is a well known person here on base and we got to talking when the 3 star was in town last week. Her daughter is getting married and Barb referred her to me - so we chatted and that one really sounds promising as another photog in town that she spoke with is booked and the one who did her senior pics was rude and she told him to eat dirt LOL.
So yeah - more business is sprouting up! :D

I think we have been EXTREMELY lucky with Abby! She started sleeping through the night at 10 weeks old now that she is 3 months old she is eating 5-6 feedings a day 5-6 oz each feeding and she goes to bed at 10pm and sleep until 7-7:30. Which is a HUGE load off my wife cause she has a busy day and i typically take abby to bed around 9:30 and have to play with her for a while and then she just falls asleep in her Basenette so leaves my wife to watch her tv shows and take a hot bath while we sleep out of her way :D

hey everybody. Looks like y'all have been busy. 5 pages in the new thread.
Well, finally had the dry suit class last night. Check out dives are on Saturday. I went to home depot today and got the supplies I need for a pair of DIY dry gloves, but the vacuum o-rings are pretty damn tight. The cuffs on the chemical gloves are also pretty snug on the 3-inch coupling that I put inside the sleeve. I'm going to hit up Harbor Freight for a pair of their rubber blasting gloves (couple guys from the shop use those for their dry gloves) so I hope I can get them with next day shipping or over-night. Either way, the smurf gloves from Home Depot should work fine.
Edit: Forgot to mention, total cost for the stuff was only $12.75

when they make those in the plant it STINKS for at least 1/2 a mile away from there. However Ranch dressing day is about 50 times worse. Hubby used to work at a concrete place directly behind Kraft. There are very few things that they make that we buy anymore.
Hhahahaha yeah I totally understand Living near a food processing plant making you have a different outlook on their foods LOL, I lived right next to a little Debbie's bakery, sometimes it was great, other times... YUCK! and I also was working for a subcontracter of thiers, we processed their cardboard shipping boxes... to this day I have a very hard time eating most of their products.

Yea they incorporated new policies about 2 months ago and went around and restricted access to everyones computers and did a audit, Now nothing can be installed unless its licensed through our company and they removed the ability to install anything!
They even put a filter on our networks so we can't access any non work releated websites :D Lucky for me our neighbor was kind enough to let me rent access to his wireless for $5 a month :D

And I am back from the exercise. Pretty pointless. I stood around with all the high ranking evaluators and people thought I was someone else and not the photog because I am all dressed up lol. I didnt end up taking any photos as it was just that - an exercise - for those who are new to the base and whatever to practice and go over what would occur in such an event. They had dummies and aircraft parts spread all over. It was interesting but I am glad I didnt have to shoot. :D It's cold out there.
In the meantime I missed lunch with my wife :( That makes me sad. She even said she looks super cute today - but that's nothing new really. I haven't had lunch with her once this week.

Good luck with that....its my family that's bigger, and I grew up with it and still hate the big gatherings. I'm just not a people person I guess.

I just got to sit in behind closed doors with my boss and two other higher ups because a Major called saying that no photo support was provided this morning during the exercise. This is just another case of miscommunication basically. I was obviously out there. I asked the Lt. Col if she needed photographs taken of the exercise and she said no (and that was fine - no one complained about that. I couldnt do anything with them right now anyway.) The Captain I went with was the safety investigator and he thought I was supposed to be with him, when in fact I was supposed to be with another team later on who investigates the scene more thoroughly, which makes sense. The Major was not upset and was glad to hear that it was just a miscommunication error rather than us not supporting the exercise at all.
And now I am hearing that they may not clear cameras / memory cards / thumb drives to be connected to these computers until after the new year. This is going to make for a long month.

yeah probably not. I had to bike Kyler over to the dr earlier. I buckled my bag onto Kyler's bike seat buckle. Apparently in those 4 blocks with gloves on he mastered undoing the buckle. My bag had all of our insurance stuff, my birth certificate, divorce papers, marriage license, 2 not cheap doodle bunz diapers with 2 extra inserts, and my only wetbag. Thankfully my wallet was in my coat pocket along with my cell phone. However It's snowing and on the way back I couldn't find it. I could not turn around and get it because we were already running late and I HAD to get him in today. I've called all the businesses between here and there along with the county sheriffs office, because for some stupid reason every number for the city cops goes to county. Nobody has seen it. You know the only thing bothering me is that my birth certificate is from North Dakota(military brat) and it's hard and not cheap to get a copy and those diapers. Ugh the fact that they're not that old and they're his day diaper system and I don't have enough to lose them and one of them is one of my favorites. It's a minkee diaper. I can't reach my husband and it's snowing hard and I'm not bundling 3 kids up to go look for a damn bag that no one can find. What is funny about the whole situation is that our address is listed in the bag at least 4 times. So I know they can find us if they wanted to.I just hope someone has a heart and returns it to me.
