Kitten, I think you will find that most of us that have said you didn't need to get all that gear, were also saying that you had not yet reached the potential with the gear you had. which I believe may still be the case! If you really feel your gear is holding you back... then get yourself a 430EX or a 580 EX II. that has helped my photography a lot.

Until your gear starts to limit you, chasing after a star called "better gear" is misdirection. If you can positively identify "this is limiting my photographic growth because ___", you're fooling yourself. I'm doing more bird photography lately. I'd love to have a 500 f/4 for that; I have the 300 f/2.8 though and with a TC or two I'm still the limitation. When the time comes, I'll probably spring for a 500 mm something, maybe used, maybe the Siggie 150-500 OS. But for now, until I've honed my skillset, the 300 is plenty.

I know, I know, I just felt like being a jerk and yanking your chain :roll: I don't feel limited with my gear right now. I wouldn't mind getting a 430ex but I don't really need it YET. As it is I'm going to be pushing all my spare time towards learning U/W video and editing THAT.

Everybody here has helped me at one time or another and I appreciate it a lot, even if it doesn't seem like it at the time. In the summer if we had corn planted behind us, by mid summer we couldn't see too far but in the winter we could easily see a large shopping center 5 miles away and the Post ceral factory 10 miles away, it's that flat. But alas, over the years developers have built and though we remain unincorporated, the city has moved to our back door. Luckily the developers had a huge water problem and they decided to build a lake right in my back yard so my neighbors are still a ways away with a body of water between us.

I am using a static IP address. I noticed the browser will take an IP address like http://69.147.76.15 for yahoo.com, but won't take www.yahoo.com. Every thing check out for eth0: shows the correct gateway just won't resolve DNS names.

OH MY GOODNESS! have you guys SEEN the 70-200 F4 beside a 70-200 F2.8 ? ? ? I hadn't until last night! hahahahahah ROTFLOL! so my wife is looking to get some pec12 for her picture restoration project (theres some awful gunk on some of them) and shipping costs are outragous for some strange* reason. so we went by a couple of the local camera shops, a mom & pop place which didn't have it, and the wolf/ritz who didn't have it either. but while we were there I had to see what inventory they had in Canon, and lo and behold there was the 70-200 2.8 IS (not surprising) just like mine, but next to it was this cute little white lens I didn't recognize LOL then I read the tag and realized what it was HAHAHAHAHHAHA I almost busted up laughing! no WONDER I've heard so many people say they prefer it due to 'size and weight' when I looked at the pictures /reviews on The-Digital-Picture, I didn't really understand how big of a difference there was. LOL

yeah I meant to say that it is on some 'list' which means that they have to declare it, and a lot of places won't ship it. She found one place adorama I think. the shipping cost was equal or greater then the product LOL

I have heard a couple people say that about the F4. I haven't used it, but I totally LOVE my 2.8 and I have no problems with the weight, in fact it's gonna get even heavier when the batteries and grip arrive :D although I will likely keep the 17-40 on it more when it comes, instead of the 70-200 which pretty much lives on the body right now :D

Well, my mom went and bought a no-name camcorder battery so that know I have 2 bats for that and 2 for my XT, but the no-name bat didn't come with a plastic cap to protect the contacts

Well, got to see the Orange County Choppers garage today. Starting from the beginning, dad and I left home at 0630 this morning bound for NJ. We got there around 10 for dad's physical (required by his company), and we didn't get out of there until 1 (and that was the "short" exam). Then we went to Orange County, NY to pick up a shirt for a guy my dad works with. I got a few pictures but didn't really put much effort into them. Anyways, from there we made it to connecticut and went up to my grandfather at the assisted living home, and then went to visit my uncle for a bit. Well, I'm more likely to have a Sterlingtek battery in my D60, 20D and 5D than a Canon, and I haven't had leakage. There aren't the 3rd party makers for the 1D3's battery. Don't sweat it.

Well, my folks spent $1400 today, but since it was for that camcorder and u/w housing for me I'm happy :D I'm going to test out the housing alone tomorrow to make sure there are no major leaks (in the pool).

Well, I used my wreck reel to lower the housing to the bottom of the pool. After 2 hours it was fine except for a little condensation from the 87°F water because it was in the 50°s today and I had my windows open on the way to work.

ha ha. it was just a hunch :) LOL I have the canon 200eg or something like that... the green backpack. I like it until I put the grip on my 40D. then it doesn't sit as well lens attached. so I am looking for a bag (really prefer backpack style as I will be taking it hiking on occasion) that will hold 40D+BGe2n with 17-40 attached, and also hold my 70-200 2.8 and 580EX. and sometime in the future a 100 macro, and likely a nifty fifty. I was looking at the kata 3n1-30. possibly could go with the 20. but the 30 would allow me to have the 70-200 mounted if I want. I haven't made it through the list of bags in the bag thread (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=585253). but that is one that stuck out from my first looking through there.

so in short: backpack style that will fit camera with battery grip and lens. pluses for being able to get at the gear quick.

I said I had looked at it, not that I was getting it. I'm actually going to get a Domke F-2 because for the rare times that I would want a backpack style bag it's not worth buying one.

Unless you're a military photog, in which case you'd be down in it with a canon and your rifle (that is, if you were in their military).

Well, Stress & Rescue class is next Wednesday and the one following that, with checkouts on the 28th. Then Dive Con class starts in April. I need to get an appointment with my doctor because in order to start Dive Con class I need to turn in a medical release signed by my physician. I've also got to test out my dive gear to make sure the auto-inflate problem was fixed (and to play with my camera [and new dive light])
