We need more medical talk in here.

Medical talk, eh? Well, my grandfather had 2 heart attacks within days of each other but didn't bother going to the hospital. My Mom finally forced him to go and they ended up having to do surgery to remove some clots and put in a couple stents. Now I'm in charge of babysitting for a couple weeks (basically driving him around and telling him to sit down and let me handle stuff). He's doing well but apparently he came VERY close to punching in his ticket.

On other medical stuff, I ordered a Maxpedition FR-1 pouch that I'm going to make into a first aid kit for my backpack and once that's done I'm going to make a bigger kit for my car.

I'm going through something similar with my dad right now. He's had a cough for a long time and suddenly gotten very short of breath. I finally convinced him to go see a doc but it took a lot of prodding.

Glad he's doing ok. He would be better if he had gone earlier. Great to know you can take care of him, must be a relief.

Good to see you , I always wonder what you're up to.

I know but he's quite stubborn. As it is, I've almost given up telling him to take it easy. Although he'll listen when I tell him it's time for lunch or dinner http://img246.imageshack.us/img246/8399/thumbsup4kk.gif

I haven't been up to much, mostly just staying out of trouble but that isn't too hard. I'm planning on quitting my job to move in with the old folks while I go to college since the campus is only about 15 minutes away (even though I'll be doing the classes online)

I'm going through something similar with my dad right now. He's had a cough for a long time and suddenly gotten very short of breath. I finally convinced him to go see a doc but it took a lot of prodding.

I hope he's alright. It must be some unwritten code that parents give their kids trouble once responsibility rolls reverse.

I love my bike rides http://img149.exs.cx/img149/8608/bouncingsmilie8mk.gif http://img99.exs.cx/img99/8577/yupi3ti.gif Just finished at 14.88 miles http://www.mundogasol.com/foro/banana.gif I'm fine on my mountain bike but given the opportunity I would definitely try a fixed gear road bike just for kicks, and I know I will definitely get a recumbent like my Dad (so I can actually keep up with him http://s9.photobucket.com/albums/a95/buttpipe/th_pant.gif )

So how is everyone else doing this weekend (or in general)? My grandfather is recovering nicely. We'll probably be going up to check on him and then shooting farther up north to close our cabins for the winter, I just don't know the exact dates

ssidiv3r

Glad you are so active Chris, never lose that as you age. It's so easy to become complacent and sit on your butt.

I know about that already, unfortunately

Great to hear that your grandfather is recovering, it really sucks to get old. My neighbor is 83 and his health has really slipped in two years to the point he has basically given up. He just stays in his recliner all the time and others have to take care of him and keep him clean. It's very sad.

I don't plan on ever being a burden to anyone (at least if there's anything I can do about it). That's too bad, even at 83 he should be doing his best to enjoy the time he has left

It's Fall gray today, kinda sucks. I really should go outside and find something interesting to shoot. Have a great weekend, I miss the old group here and often wonder what everyone is up to.

You and me both. I haven't been out shooting in quite a while. I should probably go back to carrying my camera with me everywhere

That's good. I know what you mean, if only I didn't need sleep I could get so much stuff done. The folks and I were up in Maine last week closing up the cabin and fixing some stuff.

I brought my camera and was able to get a few shots (some a tad noisy from not lowering the ISO in sufficient light).

1.) Light rays over the lake
http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a274/subzero54/IMG_3041CR2LightRaysoverLake.jpg

2.) Two bull moose inside Kittery Trading Post. Pretty good taxidermy job using two real locked moose heads as the foundation (if I understood the placards correctly)
http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a274/subzero54/IMG_3061.jpg

3.) Different angle
http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a274/subzero54/IMG_3067.jpg

4.) Story behind it (if it's too small, pull it up in photobucket and read the description)
http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a274/subzero54/IMG_3069.jpg

5.) Saw this on the drive back, with a second one (white) following it. For me, though, the only REAL cobra is blue with a silver strip and an open top (yes, I mean the 1963-65 Mk III)

Christmas time. Just to visit with Becca's parents and the cigarette ranch. I'll have a 2 pack a day habit by time we leave here Saturday. The kids already have cigarettes on their Christmas list for next year. My inlaws are wonderful people, and are always generous letting us stay in the finished basement, but the chain smoking routine gets old the 1st hour.

How can one of these in every room be wrong. Goes so well with any decor.

I am in desperate need of help. Not sure who can help me but I figure you all are mostly tech savvy. Jeff packed up one of the card readers to take with him and left me with a different. I've never had issues with taking photos off my camera this way before but tonight I sit down to pull photos off and I pulled out the card and put it in the card reader and it took it a good 5 mins to pull up the folder. I opened the folder and there is nothing but a bunch of weird crap in it. I looked at everything and my photos aren't in there any where. I messed with it a while before plugging in the USB straight to my camera and still nothing. I am freaking frustrated. I hate this card reader but stuck with it for the next 4-6 months. No I can see my photos on my camera I just cant get them to drag their lazy butts off and onto the computer. I have a canon powershot SD870IS..At least that's what it says on the front. Jeff would not let me have any other. I've never had this problem before. He took my favorite card reader and now I can't get this other one to work. About to throw it against the wall. Jeff called and I asked him and he said he doesn't know since he's not here...not so helpful since I wont get anything off then till he comes hom.

sevillafox
3rd of January 2011 (Mon), 00:04
Hmmm......maybe just get a new reader? Or, sometimes you might have to run a recovery on your card. I've had it happen before where I could see photos on the camera but was not able to read them with the computer. Ask Jeff about the sandisk recovery....maybe he has a code to run that. That's probably the route you are going to have to go.

How old is the reader? It just may not be able to cope with SDHC cards (and if the card for your camera is over 2 GB, it's SDHC).

A new card reader is certainly going to be the easiest thing to try. I don't use a Mac, but the Vivitar Series 1 72-in-1 Hi Speed reader I picked up at Staples works well with my computers. If that shows nothing but garbage on the card you might need to try some of the programs listed here (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=670801). Or take the card and reader down to your local library along with a USB flash drive and see if you can get at the files on one of the public use computers they probably have. If you can, copy them off onto the flash drive.

Hmm I don't know how old this thing is. Jeff brought it up from a box in the basement and I have never honestly seen the thing in my entire life. Might end up buying a new one. I know it has a USB cable that can hook right into my camera but even doing that brought me no answers so I have no idea what this thing is doing. It's the best ever. I couldn't be more happier than I am being a mom. Jacob is my everything. I wish I could stay home with him always. He's going to be 2 in February and it amazes me how fast he grew up and such a little person now lol. Jeff has deployed for about 6 months (state side) and Jacob is missing his dad like crazy so that has been tough but it's just amazing. I am so ready for 10 more just like Jacob!!!

I keep looking for the Delete Account button in the Edit Profile or Options thingy and can't find it. I would think every forum would have one.

I can only assume that either he figures that with 25K posts he has nothing more to say, or that he neglected to consider that playing the oddball too long tends to get people treating you like one . . . and he threatened to post the tutu shot one (or 20) time too many.

Hi kids. I've decided to take a short 1 year break from POTN. It's something I need to do for me as it's hurting my responsibilities at work and home. Obviously with as many posts as I've accumulated in just a couple years it's really taken away from my commitments and responsibilities. Spending hours at work following along though great fun, isn't exactly helping my concentration on important tasks. I would hate to jeopardize a 20 year career over what is considered a growing addiction.

As most of those on fb know I've also done some cleaning. Please do not take personal offense to this, as I've whittled my way down to about 40 people mostly family. I need to make this journey across the web for me.

So take care all. Hope you understand. Hope you guys know you're all my friends.

See you next year.
Chris

Take care Chet! Enjoy your family and real life.

I wonder if isn't something I shouldn't do as well. I don't even read real books any longer web web web .....
Not POTN.... But leave the internet alone for along

OH man! I missed Chet!

Hi everyone, for those who don't remember/know me, I used to be a regular on this thread. I've taken a long POTN break, and hope to get going again on it as Photography brought such a drive and light into my life.

Lets see, since I last posted…OK, since I cant' find my last post (I'm rusty, I'm guessing it was while we were in Texas).

~I moved to Utah (was in Texas) so now I live near family, in late 2008

~Late 2009 my hubby very nearly died. Like flatlined. Ruptured intestines. Coma for a week, 4 emergency surgeries, sepsis infection, kidney, liver, and heart, failure. Ick. He's doing MUCH better now, but still needs pretty regular medical interventions.

~We bought a house spring of 2010!

~The house flooded, the DAY AFTER our housewarming. REALLY. Spring run off flooded the nearby creek and flooded more than half of my square footage.
We lived in a hotel for a month, and after about $40,000 in damage and restoration we're at home again. We lived in a hotel for a month, and they tore out all the sheetrock from 2' down everywhere that flooded. It was lovely, let me tell you. We're praying this year it doesn't happen again and that we're able to re-landscape in a way that doesn't make a lake of our backyard and house again. I still have some shopping to do to replace some stuff, but insurance is being a butt...

FTMoment I think that's pretty much it. Kids are growing like crazy, Hubbs has a good job, and I get to stay home during the day.

Who's still around? Would love updates on ya'all!

Life get busy... and my photography takes a back seat.
I do manage to get lots of pics of the newest family member. I will post one today.. if I get a chance.

My family and I have also moved into new digs, and so far so good.
3.5 acres for my boys roam on... looking forward to my first spring in the new home.
BTW
Welcome back, and its great to see such a positive attitude after the set backs you and yours have been through. I truly hope nothing but smooth road for you in future.

I would like an update from the other regulars of this old meaningless thread as well.
Chet is missed, but I think he made the right choice in walking away from PTON.

That Shinhiryuuc user above happened to purchase the house that I lived in Detroit in the 70's. I don't know how he tracked me down, but he did. My dad was able to go take a look inside the house even. So this thread is pretty cool.

Nope. But my employer did lay-off almost the whole business in early December. I haven't been handed my walking papers yet.

He's not charging nearly enough. He firm quoted his air travel and lodging estimating $2500 for airfare and $2000 for hotel. I think his last ticket out was $7600 and the hotel bill is nearing $4000.

We're hoping to break even on this whole project.
