View Full Version : My sister-in-law's wedding; shot as a guest; while holding a newborn

These are not up to my usual snuff... my excuse is my son. He was 6 weeks old and my wife was in the bridal party, so managing camera gear was secondary to the carseat and the sling with the baby in it. I also spent half the time with my new EOS 1N and some HP5 so I didn't have as many RAWs as I normally do.

My sister-in-law hired a great team of pros. I haven't seen the work back but after looking at their portfolio and talking with them, I'm sure it will be fantastic. I've never been more welcome by the pros on site than with the two she had; they invited me over to shoot whatever I wanted of their posed shots of the couple. Though I normally never duplicate the pro's shots, I did take advantage of a few of their sets by shooting some with my 16-35 for a different angle.

I'd give them a link if I could remember the name of the company... I should've known they'd be nice once I saw they had four 5D Classics between them and a nice selection of zooms. The guy had the good sense to compliment me on my primes... we chatted about film vs. digital for their workflow and such.

Anyway, here are 8 picks:

1. (my wife and niece, my set-up shot)

2. (pros posing them, my angle)

you should do more weddings holding the kid. Good work either way.

Hah, thanks cchooks, perry, and Valjoy.

Seeing them in a row like this makes me realize my WB isn't that consistent; 4 is a bit green and I didn't get out all of the orange cast in the bottom two. I have gels for my 580 and I never remember to use them.

I've noticed the 1D MkIII does a great job at AWB. :)

Seriously, these shots are fantastic! You did a wonderful job capturing some moments that I'm sure the pro's missed out on.

I had him in a sling or in a carseat but here we are at the reception... my likeness is masked to preserve my superhero identity.

Cheers!

The last set of film was all the 200/2.8. The digital set was mostly 85/1.8... wide stuff, 16-35 II, and a few with the 200 as well. I only have three (AF) lenses now :D

Yech, AWB :P I used to leave it on AWB and change it later in LR but I got sick of seeing it jump around 100 or 200 points on each frame even though the lighting never changed. Now I just pick one and forget it...
