A340 On Approach Today

Here are a couple of shots of an Emirates A340-500 on approach to Christchurch this afternoon, some interesting effects. C + C always appreciated Barry.

on approach? with the gear up? how far out was it and what kind of lens?

It was on a eight mile final, they usually drop the gear at about 6 miles out. Lens was a EF 75-300 1:4-5.6 kit lens.

The first shot is really awesome Barry. One thing I would try doing is adding some more contrast and balancing out the Levels so there is more depth to the shot.

hmm, 8 mile final at say 200knts with a 500ft/min decent rate...

say 1000ft AGL?

is my math right?

I think they start the approach at just over 3000ft and I was the Final approach fix if that helps.

Here is my wing at it Barry. If you are using Photoshop, go into the levels adjustment and take the left side slider and move it towards the peak on the left, and take the right slider and move it towards the peak on the right. That will make a huge difference on the shot. From there you can add a touch more contrast and saturation to deepen the sky. I'm no pro but anyone else have anything to add or subtract feel free.
