Great shot.

Brian is talking about where his front left foot (for lack of correct terminology) touches the ground. It makes an OOF strip across left and right. I didn't even notice it.

I plan on doing some two and three frame stacks this spring subject permitting. Most of the time I just don't see a need for it -I'm not a detail junkie so stopping a lens down doesn't bother me ;)

I don't shoot springtails because once you're seen one of them you've seen them all -at 5x you're not gonna fill the frame with one and there aren't too many different compositions. A portrait at 10x might impress me...

well i think you do..the bubble blowing fly u posted has only 1 eye in focus. this in cause you dont stack.i get this with my mantids shots to..its got the point where im pretty sick of it so the only other option is stacking.you might like that effect but i dont.id like to step down to f/16 but its just to dam soft for my liking..im happy with f/11 even at 4X and 5X sometimes..but the lack of dof im getting annoys me alot.i think it spoils the image.like i was saying to brian..i wish they would brian out a slr that gives us dof of f/32 but the sharpness of f/8 or f/11..

Entertaining shot... if you look at the black dots on the eyes as pupils, it looks like she is looking over her shoulder back at him and he is rolling his eyes (in delight? or boredom?)

I think what we need is a 1.3 or 1.4x crop factor camera with a 12MP sensor and huge micro lenses. Then you'd have a camera with an F16+ diffraction limit.

I answered you in the fly post, but at the angle I was shooting getting the trailing eye in focus wouldn't add to the image -it would just make the composition confusing because the viewer wouldn't know where to look.

Looking at the mantid mating pair there are several angles that would give you both of the leading eyes in focus Scott with a single frame at F11...

not at that angle tho.the males head was about 2/3inch behind the females head.even at f/16 both heads wasnt in focus cause i tried.i did do alot more angles tho with both heads in focus with 1 shot..i really dont like stacking tbh..its a pain in the ass..but its good to have as a back up..i will continue to practicing using it and only use it when i need to,I like exprementing..Have you even tried it yet:?:)

Like I've said before -I plan to add stacking to my bag of tricks. But I'm not changing the Fstops that I shoot at...
