I actually like this for some reason. Cant put my finger on it.. But i realyl like it. Her pose could be a bit prettier , shes sitting like a bull frog... but i still like it

Its cute, but could use a boost in the contrast/curves region. Cute little girl.

I personally like the pose but agree it is a little dark on my monitor also.

I would crop a little of the negative space from the top, but thats just my taste.

Little dark, but nice separation from the background.
Add a little fill light and you are there.

I love the pose! But agree that it could be boosted with a bit of curves/levels, the tones look a little muddy :)

Terri - I think this is very nicely done. She looks natural and relaxed like a typical kid :D. Mine looked like that years ago. I'm going to go against the curve though and say that I like the tonality. I might brighten up her hands a little, but the other tones remind me of the grays I used to achieve in my old wet darkroom. - Stu

so most of you think its a little dark .. seems ok on my monitor but then again its never been calibrated (not sure how to do it without spending 100s).

The image was shot using a 430ex with a sto fen on and positioned to the left. Will have to get a shoot through brolly or softbox, anyone know of a decent cheapie softbox that I can attach a speedlite to? (that can be purchased in the uk).

This is practice till I can afford a lastolite highlight for portrait work.

Any idea what kind of lights I should be using for highlites, are there lights that can be used as flash and always on?
