AH! aleksandras - havent seen you around for a while, once again your pics are top-shelf, its a real pleasure to browse your galleries
remind me again what camera/lens combo you use? just curious cos a beginner friend shoots nikon & was wondering if her camera needed upgrading, but i think its the same that you use, or used to use a few months ago?
and no, i'm not suggesting that is the reason for your beautiful shots - anyone can see that its pure talent, skill & experience which is responsible!

The shown wedding is shot by two cameras. Nikon D200 with a lens 14-24/2.8 and D3 with a lens 85/1.4.
Now I shoot only with D3 (has purchased the second body). But all the summer long still worked also old D200.
Yes, I always spoke and I speak, that people are often inclined to exaggerate value of the equipment. Though, certainly, work with pro camera it is more convenient.

Excellent set! As always, sir.
I'm amazed how much time you got from the couple for their photo walk. Actually, I see it in most of your wedding sets. It looks like newly weds don't mind leaving their guests on their own for an hour or so, in Lithuania. I wish it was the same way here in the US...

yes you are right - it does make the job easier
but i am convinced that you could take beautiful wedding photos using a cardboard box with a pinhole poked through it!

I think the set itself is very consistent, and most are of good quality, well exposed, etc., but the only shots that catch my eye are three black & white ones: The one with the sun in full view on top right of the frame, with the bride on bottom right, and the two with the bride alone with the windows providing back lighting. They draw stronger emotions from me and IMO are more artistic and interesting.

Do you use much external lighting (on camera flash or off camera flash/strobes)? If not, what type of ISO settings do you typically use for your indoor shots with the D3? In my opinion, you could probably use your work to land a second job as a Nikon staff photographer.
Thanks again for sharing.

Thanks. Yes, I with you agree. As a whole. Unfortunately, wedding photobusiness has the specificity. On wedding the photographer is not absolutely free. Here both photojournalism, and formal photos and if it will be possible, the art. We try all this to balance. Sometimes it is possible better, sometimes worse.

At us too all is not always smooth. Both wooden grooms, and bad weather and shortage of time. All this happens. :)

No, I almost never use flash. For exception of those cases when without flash photographing is not possible in general.
ISO on D3 it is usual up to 3200. But sometimes I lift up to 4-5 thousand.
For Nikons are required photographers in staff ?

While downsizing images for the web tends to hide noise, I have no doubt as to quality of your pictures. I'm sure large prints would look absolutely stunning. If any of the Canon users on this forum, who are thinking of switching to the Nikon D700 or D3, come across this thread, your work will surely convince many of them to make the change.

I could do some shooting a little with the new 5d's. Very clean picture on 3200. http://forum.photographers.co.uk/phpBB2/images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif:cool:
So, I think, now really there is no reason to change system.

Providing some shots with the new 5D may now be the only way to keep some of our Canon brethen from switching to Nikon.

for sure, but you are a wedding photographer yourself so you know that you can only do as much during wedding. It's always a balance between what you want to give them and what they expect from you. Also, in concept you are suppose to document the event and be as invisible as possible. So it's really either creating or documenting. Sure you can be creative while documenting but you are restricted in that case to interesting angles and perspective. You shouldn't really interfier with the subjects so your options are still very limitted. Emin would probably be the master of documenting in an artsy way but even he can get only as many "portfolio" pictures during the day. What is fastinatic about Aleksandras style is that consistency you have mentioned. Each and every picture is just perfect in every regard. It's the highest level of crafstmanship that in a sence makes the gallery as a whole border with art.

Yes that's what I run into also, I try to make the best of things but much of it is photojournalism and capturing what's happening, and it isn't always the most interesting or eye popping shot. Every now and then the chance comes to try to make something artistic and more special.
If I could afford the 5D II or the jump to Nikon for the D700/D3 I would definitely do that, but I'm a budget wedding photographer and my rates don't really make that level of camera available to me. There's no question, I would most certainly get tons of use out of ISO3200, and probably ISO6400. There are many times when I have to use flash for shots I would prefer to take with available light.
