I'm a bit handy with the old soldering iron, so I am trying to DIY a "break the beam to fire the shutter" sort of device. I'm still in the initial design stage and would like some input.

I've been googleing like mad for the last few days to see what is commercially available, but I'm not getting anywhere. I think this is mainly as I don't know what they are called! :(

If anyone has ever used a similar device or knows what they are called / has any URL's, I'd appreciate the help.

tia,
Jules.

Nice project, well worth a go as the ones that are avilable are not cheap. If you get anywhere with this project, i.e. a working model, I would be interested. :) For info, I know them as "camera traps".

The three systems I know of are:

Jama: UK Distributors (http://www.birdtables.com/photoelectronics_new.htm), WarehouseExpress Listing (http://www.warehouseexpress.co.uk/photo/infrared/infrared.html)
ShutterBeam: Makers Website (http://www.woodselec.com/index.htm), WarehouseExpress Listing (http://www.warehouseexpress.co.uk/photo/infrared/shutter_beam.html)
PocketWizard WaveSensor: Makers Website (http://www.pocketwizard.com/HTML/waveSensor.asp)

Cheers

Ian

How precise do you need it?

IMO you don't need the laser, just a photoelement and a beam of light...
