I haven't posted here in a while, mostly because I was sick of using my onboard flash set up. Anyway, I got a 430ex but now I need a flash bracket along with an offshoe cord. What's the best flash bracket for macro?
Thanks.

Delta flip bracket (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?ci=0&shs=delta+flip&sb=ps&pn=1&sq=desc&InitialSearch=yes&O=jsp%2FRootPage.jsp&A=search&Q=*&bhs=t&Go.x=0&Go.y=0&Go=submit) looks good but there are reports that it is not sturdy enough and you get creep:

Bill- does it hold your flash steadily?
Someone needs to make one of those things big enough to mount your camera on- can you imagine that as a head on your tripod!

I have a Delta Flip flash bracket and have not been too happy with it when using my 580ex. Its too unpredictable as it moves and the flash crashes into the lens (or subject) a lot! If it only had a way to tighten it to make it stronger?

Sorry , I know you wanted a good one - but sometimes it is better to know what not to get and WHY . Maybe will give you ideas what to look for .
I have a custem brackets . It is sturdy rotates camera not flash . You can adjust the height of flash . This is a well built unit . I am not to happy with it .
1 . won't sit flat - tips over .
2 . To tight , no clearance for a QR plate .
3 . If you hand hold - it's built for a right handed person
4 . You have to use 2 hands to rotate flash and it needs to be sitting [ the camera - flash bracket ] One hand loosen the set screw and other hand holds flash at the angle you want
5 . It takes a special plate to mount on tripod or focusing rail - no body carries parts and the web site sends you to a dealer - dealer says go to web site for part number and they will order it
Good luck .

well i have the 430 ex so it's not too bad really. it's stay put just wish the flexible arm was like 6 inches longer. oh i have to tap the bracket out with one holes 3/8 16 and one 1/4 20 on the bottom of the bracket. for tripod.

well I'm happy with my flash brackets but they are both a bit DIY . The nearest I've seen to them is a Hakuba LH-1 ballhead (ebay) but the ballhead needs replacing with a stronger generic one (I just use the Jessops cheapos) with a male 1/4" screw fitting rather than a clamp fitting- this then screws into the bottom of the off camera cable. The one on the right is just a generic vidcam light bracket (rather old) with a Jessops ballhead fitted to the top clamp fitting
You can get the idea from the pic below. You can rotate the ballhead and straighten the flash to keep the diffuser near the end of the lens (even upto 5:1 on an MPE-65)

Hi,
I've the Delta flip Flash Bracket also, and I'm very happy with it, I use the Canon cord.
This is a great gear for the price !
The only problem for me is that I can't attach it to my tripod. I'm still looking for a solution.
Bye,
Laurent.

Wimberley flash bracket. A little pricey but it's very flexible. You do need an Arca-type camera plate but if you have that or are going that route this is a nice bracket.

devil350 - I have the XTI w/battery grip . Even with the camera slide all the way back it tips over with the 28-135 lens It's not even steady with my 50 mm . the slightest jar and it tips over . . I don't trust it w/ my 580 on flash bracket . You may have a different model . mine is QRS 35 H .
Does tour's sut solidly on a table ?

Since we're talking about flash bracket here, is anyone using Opteka Quick Flip bracket for macro? It's quite affordable...:)

It's OK , but only while holding . If you set it down , it will tip over . So lens is siting up where floating confetti / stuff can land on . I gave the one I had away in Mexico to a nephew .
I would put a towel on an ashtray and set lens on it .
A word - - don't turn flash off when you are going to use in 10 to 15 minutes- it takes more "juice to recharge than to keep flash charged .

I go to parties , wedding etc . I used to turn off it off when I sat down or walked to other tables . I didn't like missing shots because flash would work , slow down and finally just take to long to charge . I tried swapping batteries when I sat down but that was a hassle too ,
Was told turning flash and camera off and then on uses more batteries then leaving them on .
I bought an aux. battery for flash [ in my sig. ] for that reason .
