Well I've been working all day on selecting pictures to go on my website. Seems like I have quite a few decent self portraits. Would you recommend putting them on your own site? Or would that be more unprofessional? Thanks for your advice!

Depends on what you want to achieve with your website. If you're a hardcore professional, then I would consider it unprofessional to use self portraits. Everything other than that, its ok. I used some in the 'about' section on my website. Gives a personal touch as well, but I'm not a pro!

Thanks Roger, I am aiming to become a true professional. I can definitely see putting them in the bio, or about me section. But in the regular section...kinda hesitant...Thinking, I will just stick with what your saying, or maybe have a "creative" gallery or something...maybe i will..I don't know lol Thanks for your input!

Guess it depends more or less how good they are and what you wish to convey. Being self-portraits I think we don't get as critical on the photos but I would only recommend a few. Don't let it overload your galleries obviously.

If it somehow exemplifies your style as a photographer, do it. Or if you're an beautiful specimen, do it. Otherwise, a picture of yourself, will not help you, possibly only hurt you. No one cares what you look like. They can truly be only disapointed.

Well a lot of people have small picture in their bio section or what not, but sadly, I'm my only willing full time "model". I don't think my appearence would detract from business, but I just don't want to seem unprofessional...hm...maybe I would neglect the fact that they are self portraits ;)

well obviously you don't need to mention the fact that they are self portraits - but any observant customer could get wise once they meet you in person. If that would matter, i don't know.
You can't find any willing models and you live in a huge college town? theres gotta be some folks, male and female willing to pose for the cam...

Not as easy as you may think.

Well put it this way. I'm a Partner and Director of Creative Services for an international ad agency, and trust me that you want your work to speak for itself. I've hired more than one photographer/Director of Photography, etc... that didn't fit the image. In other words, if I'd seen a picture, I might not have hired them.
Judging a book by its cover? Absolutely. Fair? No. Reality? Yes.
Leaving a little to the imagination can be a good thing.

But as above people have mentioned, if it's a great photo, and you're not harping on the fact that it's you, USE IT!!

Thanks DMC. I think you covered all the bases on that one.
