So, I was so dying to use my new toy when I got it, that instead of charging the battery for the recommended two hours, I stood around the shop where I bought it and charged it for about 45 minutes. Used it that day, then charged it over night.

Used it yesterday, then put it on the charger and pushed refresh. This morning it was on charge. What exactly does refresh do? When will it be flashing again? I was disappointed this morning when I couldn't take it with me.

WHAT THE HECK IS REFRESH? I thought it was a touch up.

Is this a toy, or is this a Canon camera? You didn't say.

Most likely his new 1DsII.

Best regards,
Andy

Refresh will completely drain and recharge ("condition") your battery, IIRC.

You must first refresh the battery - the charger will automatically charge the battery after refresh - it takes about 8 hours - do it overnight.

If you need to fully charge your battery while it still has some juice in it (not fully discharged), it will get a "memory effect" that this recharge point meant that the battery is empty (while it really still wasn't). So you could have 25% left in the battery, but it thinks it's really 0%, as an example.
To prevent that from happening, you first press the refresh button so that the battery fully drains, before automatically recharging.
But of course if your battery was empty completely, you don't need to press that button...
I did this a couple of times, and it took about 2 hours. The amount of refresh time depends on how much juice is in your battery.
If you are gonna store the battery for a long time, you unplug the charger from the wall outlet, connect the battery to it, then press "Refresh". Your battery will then fully drain, and you can safely store it uncharged.
All this is mentioned in the battery's operation manual that came with your 1DsMkII, but not in the 1DsMkII's manual itself.
