Here is a before and after pic, now before you do, i do not want input on the image as far as shot and lighting and things like this. this pic was just a snapshot a friend took with a Point and shoot so nothing spectacular. I just want some input on my post processing on the faces, i am new to editing and i just download gimp a couple of days ago so i am learning how to use it.

Thank you
Roshan

appologize for the large size they were both compressed to the same size, not sure why the first is so much bigger

I'm really not sure what you did to them, but it looks like they're wearing tons and tons of makeup. It doesn't really work.

Something about the light missing in their eyes in the 2nd one.

The biggest problem with this photo is lighting, but there are also lots of problems technically as well. An image like this looks more like a regular snapshot, so the sort of processing you applied on the skin makes the photo very contrived. As a snapshot, I like the original better - you could apply some spot healing to help conceal some blemishes and correct for redeye and exposure.

You've taken off all the highlights on the face, and I don't really understand why. It looks fake. The first one was fine, not national geographic quality, but a fine snapshot of a time you'd want to remember.

(heh, you even did it on his fingernail!)

They look dry. Especially the eyes in the 2nd shot.

This reminds me of the photos of my parents taken back in the early 50's

There's no reason to smooth skin in this photo; both have pretty nice skin to begin with. If you want to clean up a blemish here and there or tone down some highlights, use the healing brush sparingly. As mentioned above, the original is much better.

Agree - but the big problem with the image is that snake. You do know it's there don't you?

The only things really wrong with this photo, the lighting is flat, and the background isn't good.
Like was said before, just fix the blemishes, remove the red-eye in the girl. His teeth look good, hers could be lightened a little (don't over-do teeth, it's easy to look fake).
Over-all a very pleasing pic and could be fixed easily. Good Start.

ok thanks for your replies i agree, i got completely carried away with the editing, I just learned how to use Gimp so I got a little trigger friendly. Looking at the pic now it looks very fake. Thanks for the input.

By taking away the bags below the mans' eyes you made him look a little scary...
