After 3 days of cloudy/rainy weather, Monday was a beautiful day here, so we had to get out. Our first stop was at one of St Pete's nature parks we had never seen. Turns out it's closed on Mondays, so we'll have to try another time. Our back-up plan was Ft DeSoto Park, a favorite. I'll have to make several posts to cover the various captures. To begin, the azaleas were blooming nicely, and we did see quite a few birds. I need help with some of the names, such as this one.

Sorry, but i can't help with the bird...no matter how nice a photo it is. He just stands out from that background.

It's something related to a Sandpiper, but it's hard to say. Get it to turn around for a portrait next time.

Thanks, both of you. I wanted to call it a sandpiper, but have seen similar birds with longer legs that I think are sandpipers. "Related to" may be the key phrase. I gotta get that birding book.

Taking a WAG, but possibly a plover? Great shots either way.

I can help with the name of the azaleas. They are called George Tabor's and are my personal favorites. The largest bush in my backyard is over 6 ft tall in will be covered in blooms in just a few weeks. I am so looking forward to that.
