Late in the afternoon, we went out onto one of the piers extending out into the Gulf of Mexico. Dark clouds were rolling in and the wind had picked up. I saw no less than six people sporting Canon 1D or 1Ds and long L lenses, up to 600 mm. They were all leaving as we arrived. Although lighting was poor, we stayed and got a few decent shots, such as these Snowy Egrets roosting atop one of the shelters on the pier. The wind made it a bad hair day for the egrets.

O-kay,. the portrait is great,. good detail and lovely exposure which can be very hard whith a big white bird.... one of the best you've posted. :)

But that first shot is what we are really looking for!
With them all facing the same direction,. you've got character, humor, add to that the decent background with the clouds,. a real framer,.. ;)

You may want to do some serious experimenting with cropping,. just to see if isolating one of the tightly packed groups makes for a more intersting study,. it may not,. but it might be worth a try.

I think that snowy egret is of the Don King subspecies.

Wow, I have never seen so many of them in one place at the same time! The detail in #2 is wonderful.
