Despite poor lighting, we managed to snap a couple of pelicans, one roosting on a light standard and one floating in the Gulf of Mexico. The one resting was taken by my wife (Sony), while I took the floater with DREB and 75-300mm IS.

I've only ever seen the less colorfull white pelican,. these guys are amazing.

Funny, but brown pelicans are practically pests around here. The white ones that come here during the winter are larger and considered more attractive. Guess it's a matter of perspective.
