View Full Version : Football International - terrible, TERRIBLE lighting

The GB Lions played the French National team last weekend in Amiens, France. I was hoping for better floodlights but only got 1/400-500th at f2.8 and ISO 6400. :(

A HUGE contrast from Wembley Stadium's 1/800th at f2.8 and ISO 1250.

Can you believe the endzones were darker than the middle of the field?! Ah well...

GB won 13-6. A great result, considering the French recently defeated the European champions, Sweden.

And yes, we play 'proper' football in Europe, too.

Here's a few for comment/critique. I've left them as shot (other than crop, contrast and saturation) rather than via noise ninja or similar. All comments welcome. GB played 'Pro-Bowl' style (keeping their team helmets, rather than using one colour).

I know how you feel when it comes to lighting, im forced to use a flash as to have any chance of having keepable photo's without the flash i have to use ISO 3200, 1/125 at 2.8.

nice captures though consitering the lighting, and great work on the noise reducing.

That's all down to the 1D Mk. III. I didn't do anything.

I would have bumped the ISO to 2000

they seem really dark

re-read the first sentence...

To OP:
You couldn't supply the light? No strobes/flashes, nothing to use?

Oh! I was confused, I'm sorry. I thought you were shooting at 1250. Wrong line

I've never shot with 'distance-flash' at a sports event and while I could have experimented, I didn't feel confident enough to at this event. I'll need lots of practice and have to get used to shooting at a very low frame rate.

I just wasn't confident enough to do it this time. Any tips would be gratefully received though. Ta. :)
