picture size when posted

How do I make sure the pictue that I posted will use up the maximum page space given? I did it with my first picture, but all the ones after that has been dramatically smaller when posted. What's the problem?? Tips appreciated.

I take all my shots (S1 & 10D) at maximum size for best quality and to allow for cropping. I use the phot software (usually Microsoft Picture it that came with XP) or of course Photoshop (if I require more effects or processing) to re-size the image to about 640x480, 180 DPI. If you set the resolution, the other two (DPI & actual print size) default.
This usually results in a decent size pic for the post.
