When I resize a picture to 4x6 inches (300 DPI) in PS, why does my printer crop the image on 4x6 borderless paper? I have the PictureMate by epson. What size should I make my images in Photoshop to avoid cropping/expanding by the printer?

Some printers by default overextend the image to assure a borderless print. Often you don't need to resize your image. Look for a "fit image to print size" option after you select your paper size.

are you setting image size to 4X6 or cropping to 4x6? If you go under print with preview you can see the layout with the page set up. there is a check box for fit to media. Is that checked? how much is it resizing? I have the picture mate and have not noticed this.

I find that i get better quality if i fit to paper, rather then preshrink it to 4x6. I dont know if this is true for everyone else?

On my i9900 printer, in the printer properties window, there is a tab which allows me to adjust the amount of edge spill-over. The spill-over ensures that when you print borderless, it really is borderless without any white lines. Check to see if your printer has the same control when you print borderless and adjust it accordingly if it does. This control is different and independent of the "size to fit" check box that's in the print window.

I also am having a problem with the 4x6 prints. I have an hp photosmart 7550 printer and a newly purchased G6 camera. I have not found any printer properties such as "fit image to print size" or "adjust amount of edge spill over." Also I have not cropped or resized the pictures. I have tried adding pixels to the edge of the picture (up to 25 on each side of the picture) with Arcsoft Photo Studio software. That helps somewhat, but not enough. I know that standing back a little farther from the subject, is one solution...but I have some pictures already taken, that I would like to print out, if possible (without chopping off part of the people). Thank you for any help on this problem.

The "fit to edge" option is in Photoshops print preview page, then u click the fit to page checkbox, press the print button then go to ur printer properties and select any spill over or borderless checkboxes, and select paper and quality, etc (different printers have diff types of borderless/spill over names and stuff so it depends on ur printer) (I have the spill over option on my i9900, where my son must check "borderless print" on his R300.

Thank you for your reply. I followed your directions, using Adobe PhotoShop Elements 2.0. And the people are not chopped off, along the top edge of the picture. Thanks! Now, however, I have another question. Now there is a 1/4" white border of the left and right edges (which are the 4" sides). Is there a way to get rid of that border, too? I noticed when I was in "print preview" that it said my picture size was 4" x 5.3" (not 4"x6"), so I suppose that is why there is a white border. Is 4" x 5.3" typical size for G6 camera? Thanks again.
