Hey Guys, long time no post :-) I haven't been in here for a little while as i have been soooo busy with work I just haven't had much net time. I thought I would share a couple of quick shots from yesterdays Wedding. Note that there has been virtually no editing to these photo except for resizing and extracting from RAW and a i put a faded shot into photo 2. These photos were printed out at the reception on a little 5x7 photo printer and given to the bride and groom as a surprise. they showed everyone their new photo frame and we were asked for several cards during the night.
Yesterday was one of those days that just had really weird weather, its the end of November here in Australia, yet yesterday we had sleeting rain and freezing cold winds, one minute its sunny the next its raining (literally) so they were very difficult shooting conditions. Luckily for us we had some good weather at most of the right times and a bridal party that just wouldn't give up! it was awesome.

funny, it's the end of November over here in the US also.
All kidding aside, I really like the first one, but think the second is a little creepy

Jason, I have your blog BM'd, your work is mind blowing.
Is it the 1Ds MK III That makes colors and 'pop' like this? You say these were nearly SOC? That's insane! They almost look HDR..
Do you have your settings adjusted on the MK III where the saturation is boosted or something?

Yeah the colours are awesome, its nothing to do with the MK III, its all about using good quality lighting. Thats whats important.

Did you at least use a PL filter to make the sky deep like that?

Nope, just small apertures and really good lighting. I use a Broncolour Verso A2 with Uni lights and a medium Chimera softbox. I often get scuffed at when im out shooting by other photographers as a fee of them has said the whole studio lighting thing is a gimmick. I like ot shoot at around F11-F16 at ISO 100 1/125th sec shutter speed.

MY DVD is actually about modeling, not Weddings, but the principals are the same.. just the subject is in a bridal dress instead of her undies... lol

The second one reminds of the Van Helsing ending. Just doesn't do it for me at all. Nice shot without it though. I love the car and bike background.

I love em! Jason, do you typically have to coerce the bride to sitting on the grass, or do you carry a towel to have her sit on?

Great shots... :D
Isn't it a drag to carry all those lights around though, btw I have just started to realise how great good light is though, actually using my umbrella with my flash is opening a whole nother sort of moment where you sort of think you got a whole new camera if you know what I mean, like the first time you don't use P mode and move on....

Jason, I've tried the 'huddle' group shot outside before but with no flash and it didn't turn out well...
Do you use on-camera flash for those? And if so, I had assumed it would over-expose the people closest to the flash while under-exposing the rest.
What light setup do you use for the huddle shots where you lay down?

Nah its not a drag to carry the lights, its a lot of work, but not a drag, as soon as the B&G see the shots on the camera they get all excited and that gives me an enormous amount of job satisfaction, negating the hassle of carrying all the gear. I always have two photographers for each Wedding and we make use of the Groomsman too.
For the huddle shots i use my Broncolour Ring-Flash C. I ALWAYS shoot RAW so all I do is the person closest to the flash I use a lightroom local adjustment and pull the exposure back just for them, hence the overall exposure is correct (or pretty close).
Check out my blog for the last two weddings I have done too... a mixture of studio and natural lighting...

My god, man...I just realized when looking at your blog, you worked like, 6 straight days doing shoots, sometimes two in one day! Am I correct in my assumption?
I don't know how you find the time to shoot, process, blog and post here and still have time to sleep, eat, etc.
Must be quite fun though!

Great shots.....Not sure about no 2 ,it is a beautiful shot on its own, dont know whether it needs the faces in the sky ...but I am sure the B.G will love it. very creative.
I too had a wedding on this day...my first...dreadful weather and a very very hard wedding to shoot. Cheers Val
